I had sold a couple of hounds about 2 months ago and said if they are not as I say I will refund you no problem and I will, got an e-mail after the first hunt saying how happy he was with them and was told how he couldn't wait for his x-mas time off from work to hunt more ,hunt # 2 before x-mas shot 4 hare nice hounds,I was happy he was enjoying them. Now few days later he wants to send them back AFTER the x-mas season not just right now but after the season because they are chasing deer he says???I had them 3yrs since pups and never did they take anything only hare if they did they would be pushing up my grass right now, so I am woundering about this not saying it can't happen but I would bank that they are not. Does it sound like I am getting had or is it just me ??Thanks CH.

Sounds like somebody wanted some beagles for season but not to feed and care for the rest of the year. May be best for the dogs if you took them back but sounds like you may be getting played by this guy.

Not taking the other guys side, BUT sounds like you gave an unlimited trial period. A recipe for disaster for sure. live and learn.

The only way that I can see where buddy may have a legit gripe is if you sold the dogs to him as deer broke dogs. If that is the case and they are running deer you need to make it right. If they werent sold as "deer broke" then this guy has to realize that sometimes things dont go the way they planned and he has to accept responsibility for the trash racing, and deal with it accordingly. I know when I buy a dog I ask about this specifically so there are no surprises. If the seller tells me the dog hasnt been deliberately broke off trash, but has never run it for him.......to me that translates into, he will sure trash when I get him

I'd rather hear that the dog has been "blasted" for running trash than the old "well he never ran trash here" line. That way you know the dog knows that he's not supposed to be doing that or at least someone tried to convey that message to him.

I think that the NEW OWNER SHOULD INVEST in a 2 dog collar unit for HIS DOGS . 2 months later, RIGHT!!!!!!! JMO

If they are running deer why is he wanting to wait until after the season to return them. I think that the guy is has hunted them for as long as he wanted to and now wants to return them. If you did not give him a limited trial period then you should take them back. This is the reason most guys only give a 2 week trial on dogs. I believe that the dog probally aren't running anything off. You left it open for him to bring them back when ever. He has hunted them all that he wants to for the year now he wnts his money back. He probally Planned on this from the start. I would give the guy his money back but tell him never to come to my place again. He played you for a free hunting season over dogs. For now on give a limited trial period.

I have sold a few dogs. I never sell a dog on a unlimited trial. I never sell a dog as absolutely broke although I do sell dogs as not running trash for me. I rarely sell a dog on trial because I know plenty of guys who could ruin a good dog in a very short period of time. If I do sell one on trial, there is a set limit on the length of the trial. I never sell a dog on trial during hunting season as I sold a coondog on trial once, the guy made a bunch of money off of fur the dog treed, and he then returned the dog. Some rabbit hunters would hunt the dogs and then not want to feed them in the summer. If someone wants to try the dog, he can come to my place and try him. When he bought the dog, it is his dog.
I do honor any commitments I have made. I get a lot of repeat buisness.

I believe every dog is a trash runner, given the right circumstances, at least darn near everyone I've bought has been. The purchaser has no right to expect these dogs to be DEER PROOF unless you sold them that way. I don't think it's right for him to return them after the hunting season. The dogs are worth less now then when he bought them. I care about my dogs and the thought of them tied up half starved all summer because the owner didn't want them would be too much for me. So, I would buy them back, break them off deer and sell them again to someone else that wants them never doing business again with this guy.

you said you would refund if the hounds are not as you say. so either they are or they are not. if they are its a done deal if they are not then buy back. that being said this guy sounds like a rat bass terd and if you like those dogs offer to buy back at half of purchase price if you really like those dogs give all money back. Remember these are his dogs and you are buying how much are you willing to give? My opinion is based on what you have stated above ( 2 e-mails stating happiness with the hounds and what a great time he has had killing hare and can't wait to get back out there ) if what you say is true it doesn't sound like misrepresented hounds. By the way do you have any trial worthy hounds you would sell me and lets just skip the money part cause that will just cause confusion down the road when I return the dogs , cod of course. Just kidding!! Dave

I would tell him to bring the dogs and we'll go find some deer and test them out. JUST IN CASE, have the shock collars on the dogs and give them a free lesson. See if he will be satisfied with that. It would also give you a chance to see if the dogs will bump a deer. If he is not satisfied, I would take them back. Your reputation is worth a lot more than a couple of dogs.
