Terrible Morning...............

I had the worst morning i think i have ever had this morning. loaded both my dogs up around 8 and went out to a spot i havent hunted yet. ive got 2 dogs but only run one at a time because i only have one collar. (sopposed to be gettin another for christmas) anyway we, well I, jumped a rabbit almost as soon as we got out of the truck. i take my female over to it. she doesnt do anything. just stands there on the track then looks up at me. ok maybe thats just a coincidence. next rabbit jumped not 15 yards from the first. she doesnt track this one either. just stands there and looks at me. next rabbit...jumped about 30 yards from the last one. she doesnt do anything with this one either. ok 3 strikes shes out. i put her bak in the box and get my male. go around a pond that is where we hunt. he jumps a rabbit and he actually opens. runs it for 20 yards and hes done. so now im gettin a little bit PI$$ED off.....lets find another one...i jump another one get my male on it..yea he opens again. then i hear something behind me. here comes my female running to me. im wonderin how in the HE!! did u get out. o well truck is to far away lets just hunt them. by this time my male dog has quit the last rabbit. im officially ticked off now. i put them on leads take em bak to the truck. then i see how my female got out. she chewed through the 2x4 welded wire on the door to the box. so i put them bak in the box and hillbilly rig the door so that it will stay shut. i made it bak home without the dogs getting out. so after about an hour and a half after i let the dog(s) out im bak. i should have stayed in bed this morning. dogs never reallly actually went out to hunt. just kinda stood around my feet and looked at me. but when they did jump rabbits it was usually on accident. there would be a rabbit sitting just off of a deer path and my dog would walk down the deer path and it was to close to the rabbit and he would bolt. sorry for the very long post im just venting. not a very good day.

Sounds like scenting may not have been that great. I don't understand why you are jumping rabbits for the dogs to run. Sound like you need to let the dogs jump the rabbits.

i wasnt purposely jumping them for the dogs though. i would just be walking trying to get to a different spot and would happen to jump them. the dogs are supposed to do the jumping. to bad it didnt go like that this morning...keith

Just wondering if you have shocked these dogs alot on deer? If so they may be scared to open around deer scent.
