What's your favorite Huntin' song?
After a hard day of rabbit hunting we like to set back, have a beverage and listen to my hunting buddy Pete play guitar and sing. One of my favorite songs that Pete sings goes like this:
I Won't Go Huntin' With You Jake
It's springtime in the mountains and I'm full of mountain dew
I can't even read my catalog the way I used to do
I'm a sittin' in that little shed just right back off the house
Here comes ol' Jake with all the hounds but he's gonna hear me shout.
Oh, I won't go huntin' with you Jake but I'll go chasin' wimmin'
So put them hounds back in the pen and quit that silly grinnin'
Moon is bright and I'm half tight my life's just beginnin'
I won't go huntin' with you jake but I'll go chasin' wimmin'.
Let's go down to the meetin' house and wait till they start home
Them gals that live on Possum Creek will always leave alone
We'll run 'em down the corn row them sassy little misses
We'll scare them pretty gals to death we'll stop and blow 'em kisses.
--- Instrumental ---
Now wash your face and comb your hair it's darn near time to start
But let me tell you fore you go there's no one that's got my heart
Don't chase the one with the yellow hair that wears the dress of green
Well, that sweet thing belongs to me I know she's past sixteen.
Now I was headed for the general store when a silly thing I seen
They make 'em in the city it's called a magazine
I turned to page 32 and look at what I found
Them gals wear clothes that we ain't seen beneath them gigham gowns.
Oh, I won't go huntin' with you Jake but I'll go chasin' wimmin'
So put them hounds back in the pen and quit that silly grinnin'
Moon is bright and I'm half tight my life's just beginnin'

LOL Pappy !! yes , I remember that song real well and even still strum my gutbox (guitar) and sing it on occation. Believe it or not , I still have the 45 rpm record of the song and the big hit was actually on the flip side of that 45. Are you ready for this ??? It is Big Bad John !! LOL...remember it ?
Anyhow , I'm kinda partial to that song that old Elmer Fudd sings called KILL THE WAAABIT... KILL THE WAAABIT !! ... LOL...CHH

Do ye ken John Peel with his coat so grey?
Do ye ken John Peel at the break of day?
Do ye ken John Peel when he's far, far away
With his hounds and his horn in the morning.
Chorus:
1. Twas the sound of his horn brought me from my bed
And the cry of his hounds has me oftimes led
For Peel's view holloa would wake the dead
Or a fox from his lair in the morning
2. Do ye ken that hound whose voice is death?
Do ye ken her sons of peerless faith
Do ye ken that a fox with his last breath
Cursed them all as he died in the morning?
Chorus:
3. Yes, I ken John Peel and auld Ruby, too
Ranter and Royal and Bellman so true
From the drag to the chase, from the chase to the view
From the view to the death in the morning
Chorus:
4. And I've followed John Peel both often and far
O'er the rasper fence and the gate and the bar
From Low Denton Holme to the Scratchmere Scar
When we vied for the brush in the morning.
Chorus:
5. Then here's to John Peel with my heart and soul
Come fill, fill to him a brimming bowl
For we'll follow John Peel thro fair or thro foul
While we're waked by his horn in the morning.
Chorus:
The Irish Version:
Did ye ken John Peel wid his cwote sae grey?
Did ye ken John Peel at the breck o' day?
Did ye ken John peel gayin' far, far away -
Wie his hoons and his horn in a mwornin'?
Chorus:
1. For the sound o' the horn caw'd me fra my bed.
As the crt o' the hoons he often led,
For Peels view holla wad waken the dead,
Or a fox frae his lair in a mwornin.'
2. Yes I kenn'd them aw an' morny things mair,
An' could tell sec teayles as to meayke yen stare,
How we ran down foxes and of'ns hare,
Erte the hoar left the hills in a mwornin.'
Chorus:
3. An we follot John Peel beath oft an' far,
Ower rasper fence and yett an' bar,
Frea low Dentonholm up to Scratchmere Scaur,
