I have went through the archives on this site as well as some of the others and still wondering what is the best training collar to buy. I see a lot of votes for the Tritronics classic 70, but also the some diehart fans of the newer Dogtra systems. I'd like to hear from owners that have systems the have a range of at least one mile and have either the warning tone feature or the pager vibration warning like on the Dogtra systems. Owners of the Innotek and the Beagler systems also welcome to chime in. Money being no object (as even the most expensive systems are affordable), what would you buy? Thanks in advance

All I know is that the tri tronics people will back there stuff up 100%.
Thats what Im looking for in a company that Im going to spend 500.00 with.

i have the beagler 2 dog collars from tir-tronics. i got them last week or so and only used them 1 time on a 20 deg. day with 6''-8'' of fresh snow and one froze up. they say it is normal due to the type of batteries they use.

but i can't say anything bad about them,,when i called tri-tronics they were helpful.

i think i would be happy with them..

I have been using a Tritronics two dog Pro 500 and a pro 100 for 4 years now. Tritronics more than stands behind their product. All waranty work done without question. When the hound lost her receiver, they replaced all the batteries and did an overhaul on the 2 dog unit, no extra charge. I use them for distance and my hounds now run and listen without the collars on. The batteries are subject to cold, drains them flat in no time. That's why my hounds have been out running, in the wild, for the last 3 weeks without collars. Summer weather charge lasts a long time. I find distance fine unless they get in a 'dead' zone. I have figured out where they are too! Love that Tritronics stuff. I live in Ontario and have had no trouble dealing with Tritronics in the West! Carolyn

My vote goes to Dogtra. I have the two dog system and wouldn't consider anything else. I use it almost dailey summer and winter never had a battery problem. Works for me.

I have a TriTronics Field 70 that I bought the last year they made the Field 70. Last year I sent it in because it wouldnt turn on and they totally went through it and it is now pretty much the same as a Classic 70. They did not charge me a dime. The only down side to the TriTronics that i see is that they dont like the cold. You can put the collar on a dog (fully charged) when it is below freezing and within 30 minutes it will be flashing like it is dead but it will still operate(it just thinks its dead). If you use it in temps near 0 for a long period of time they will "freeze up" and you have to warm them up to get them to come back to life.

I use Dogtra e-collars, i had used Tritronics for 15yrs. and i thought that they were the best training collars i could use, until i discovered Dogtra.
I don't know what features you are looking for in a collar but if you will check Dogtra beats every feature that Tritronic has.

I have never had a problem with Dogtra collars freezing up, I have had Tritronics to Freeze up and not work, If you will read the postings on this board you can see that i am not the only person that this has happened to.

I just don't understand where some think that tritronics is the only e-collar,i have run hounds for 50years and have run shocking collars for over 15 years and have used about every collar on the market, fellows you had better take a look at some new cutting edge equipment

I have no complaints about innotek. I use the RR-5000 retriever trainer.
has 1 mile range, 3 dog unit, waterproof, tone options, momentary stimulation, rechargeable batteries, same charger for transmitter and collar, and has 3 year warranty. and yes I use it on beagles. I might add its not a bad deal for $400 for a 3 dog unit, of course it only comes with one collar. Cabelas sells similar unit for one dog, made and warantied by innotek for Cabelas, for about $250. A buddy has same unit and has had few problems, he had a battery go bad, and some of the coating started peeling at the end of the collar, both were taken care of promptly by innotek with extra freebies. I definatly but em though the cold test so far this year and absolutly no problems. I couldn't say enough good things about them

WELL I USE TRI TRONICS MUTI SPORT 2 LOVE EM!

I had inotek FS 200 and at about 13 months (1 year warranty) they gave out. They would not fix them nor could they be rebuilt, but they would give me a small discount on my next collars. Inotek will never get my business again. Went top of the line and bought Tritronics Ultra trashbreakers 3 dog set with 2 mile range about a year ago. I have not had a problem. They are a lot heavier, but the dogs don't seem to notice. I probably don't need the range and I rarely use it, but like insurance I like to be covered.

Just wanted everyone to know that I kept an eye on the post and appreciate the responses. I believe I am going to end up gambling a bit and tri out the Dogtra unit. Looks like the majority of the folks on this board and others prefer Tritronics, but the few diehards that had the Dogtra units convienced me. Thanks again.

Does the Dogtra coller have the same level of stimulation that Tritronics does?
Do they offer collers in a three dog unit??

Right now I have two, three dog Tritronic Beaglers and I like them alot.
But I'm not closed minded if there is a better product out there I'd like to try it...

I should be able to beat any of the Magazine prices on Tri-Tronice shock collars!

I have or should say had the Tritronics 70 classic 2 dog unit. I loved the fact that I had the insurance in some of the spots I hunt because it crawls with deer. I had never had a problem before with hounds taking deer until I bought one new pup and she had half the pack starting to do it. I thought I would loose my mind! After I got the thing in the mail I took the hard heads out back of the house and gave them religion. Each time they would site chase, start tracking or even smell the track and get happy I would make them say their prayers. I didn't fool around one bit! As far as I was concerned if they continued this monkey business they would either wind up getting hit crossing a road or lost in the Adirondack Mountains and become coyotee bait. I have not had a deer run in four years now (knock on wood) but I still put the collar on once in a while just in case. Now if you notice I said the "collar" not collars. That is because one got lost when one of the hounds was crawling through briars as thick as a Brillo pad. I was never able to find it. This is why I now plan to buy a new setup also. Here is my idea of a perfect set for me if I can find it. I have even e-mailed Tritronics to see if they could put together such a deal. I do not need a mile or more reach because if the hound is that far away I have no clue what it is doing and I will not juice a hound unless I am sure it is on deer. If the hound does take a deer it is usually going to jump it close to me or one of my buddies because the hounds hunt close to us in the areas with all the deer. And, we use walkie talkies so if its a deer we know its deer and I want to correct them right then and now. I do not want to fool with changing plugs anymore or loose the stupid things because they are expensive to replace and I have lost more than my fair share. I do not want a heavy box on the collar to collect a snow ball as big as the hounds head when the snow is sticky and to get caught in the tangles to get pulled off and lost. Been there done that ! I do not want to have to make the collar so tight that the hounds eyes bug out or its voice changes out of fear of loosing it. Here is what I want. Tritronics Sport Series, I think they call it the 65. But I want the ability to run three dogs at on time and have 1/2 mile range. It needs to be free of plugs and able to adjust strength at the transmitter. The icing on the cake is to have each of the three collars equipted with a locating beeper that could be set off from the transmitter in the event the stupid collar got pulled off. If I had such a locating beeper I would still have two collars now. The area I lost it in is a strip of briars and blowdowns only about 75 yards wide and 200 yards long. But the spot is so thick you are not even able to see the hounds much of the time because they are underneath the stuff. Its not until they push the rabbit out and up the side of a hill that you can ever get a shot. With a beeper I could walk right to it. I do not see in the catalog such a combo yet nor is one on the Tritronics web site. I will wait till it comes out before I buy. And if somebody other than Tritronics comes out with such a three dog unit with locating beeper they will get my money.
If anyone has seen such a deal please let me know. You would be making one hillbilly mighty happy!
