I have a 2 dog tri-tronics classic 70. I bought it refurbished a year ago from the collar clinic. Not a bit of trouble with it. I have never seen or used a dogtra,but tri-tronics has a great reputation for building excellent collars. They are also American made.

I know the beagler who owned the largest dealership for Tri-tronics in Canada. He also dealt in other training collars. He told me he had far less complaints with Tri-tronics than any other brand. He'd always try to steer customers to Tri-tronics even though he made as much profit on the cheaper brands, but he knew they'd be more satisfied with Tri-tronics plus he'd have less returns and repairs to deal with. I've had my Tri-tronics outfit for probably 15 years and only sent it back once to have batteries replaced.

Tri-tronics trashbreakers are what I have. They are excellent!

I have a Dogtra 202NCP, and it works great for me. The receivers are small enough for the smallest beagles, and it has plenty of power to stop dogs off fast game. I'm sure the Multi Sport is a quality collar too. Tri Tronics has quality products. Good luck with your decision.

how much would a good collar cost around

I like tri tronics but stay away from the multi sport collars, they have a half mile range which is okay, but I have had constant problems with the charger chords that come with them. The holes seem to wear out easy from sliding them on and off of the collar, and then they no longer work, You have to keep buying new charging chords, they aren't expensive, but they seem to go out pretty often. I haven't had any problems with the collar itself, but the actual charging process can be a pain. I have left them on the charger with the light lit up, just to come back 6 hrs later and find out that the light went out because there wasn't a good conection and the collars werent actually charging during that time. I like the classic 70 because it has a tone and a mile range.

As for Dogtra I have never used them, but I find tri tronics very reliable and see no need to try anything else.

For prices on tri tronics just check the trading post on this board from time to time, there are always some collars for sale or trade on hear or do a search on tri tronics and you will be able to get an idea of what you are looking to spend.

What I'm looking for is for a 2 dog unit with at least 1/2 mile range with tone for under $300. This leaves.....not much. The question I guess is whether you would buy a reconditioned multisport or a new dogtra? I just getting started in the beagling world and have to start somewhat small.

I have a multi sport 50 but it doesn't have a tone, just make sure that the one you are buying has a tone. Remember the range of the collar is in open terrain, You will not be able to reach a half mile in thick terrain in most cases. I look at shock collars as an investment, it is better to save up and buy the right thing than to buy something now and find out that you need to upgrade in a couple of months. That is exactly what I did, I bought the multi sports 3 dog unit, and then realized that I needed something that would reach a little further that had a tone, so I had to go back out and buy a classic 70, Tri tronics doesn't give much at all on a trade in so I ended up keeping both sets of collars. Keep your eyes on the trading post on this board and you might find a good deal on a classic 70 which has a tone, a lot of people are upgrading to the new G 2 unit and selling their classic 70s which is a darn good collar.

I have a dogtra 1804 4 dog wouldn't take anything for it....

I have a tri tronics classic xl 70 6 dog wouldn't take anything for it either...


Both are good collars. Neve had any probelms with either set. The dogtra is over 2 yrs old and still work great

I have a Dogtra 202NCP Gold and have no problems with it. It's also wise to have that 2 yr warranty instead of just a 30 day warranty, just in case. With my luck, I'd go with the warranty, especially with the Dogtra being a great unit anyway!

ive said it before and i will say it again that i have the 1804 dogtra after having the tt beagler and trashbreaker and the dogtra hands down is a better unit----i dont know about the new g2s buts thats just my 2cents

I've got 4 Innotech collar sets (2-1 dog, 1-2 dog and 1-3 dog) and they are junk!! JUNK!!! I use to be a dealer for them. JUNK. I now have the Dogtra 1804 and love it. It cost about $560 with a 1 mile range. Remember the 1/2 mile range is only about 100 yards in heavy woods. Buy the longest range you can afford. Google the internet for Dogtra and you will save some money. Most dealers wanted $650 for the 1804, but I found it for $560. I would think the 2 dog set would be under $300.

The tritronics beagler was a old unit. But the trash breaker is not. I have had two sets of Tri-tronics one Classic 70 XL 3 Dog and I now have the G-2s both are excellent. I wouldn't own anything else for myself. All my friends have Tri-tronics and have had no major problems I have heard of minor ones but you will with any brand.

I had a DT St 2 dog system that I like someone stole it a few weeks ago but it had 60 levels of intensity with 1 mile range and I loved it.
