I have never heard any one say a whole lot about the gunsmoke bred hounds out there. If you have ever hunted with any Gunsmoke dogs, own one, or have seen one run tell me what you think.
Thanks

Hey Jeremy,
This is my little female and I love her. She won her first hunt at 12 months old. This was only her second trial , her first was the EMC so that may have been asking quite abit out of her. Here is a link to her.

She has ton of hunt and a great mouth on her. I think she is quite stacked on the pedigree. She has Dreamboat as a sire and Gunsmoke Red Pepper 2 for her damm which I believe is a sister to Mississippi Bell if I am not mistaken....M.G. would know for sure. I plan on breeding her next year.

Which Gunsmoke are you asking about?
The blueticks and redticks?
The Gunsmoke Lizard Creek Tadpole stuff?
Or the Gunsmoke Hitchhiker stuff?

I've only seen one pure Gunsmoke dog run that I know of.
I ran against him in GA at a PP trial and the dog won the cast. Pretty footy but pretty clean also for the speed he ran. I think it was a "he". lol
Nice dog from what I can remember. He sure put it on Rowdy.
I have a male out of Hitchiker. Totally different line and totally different style running. My dog is laid back and runs like I've heard Diamond II did (grandfather). Hunts good, seems to be pretty smart but is not the footiest dog in the woods. I'd say he is UBFG style all the way.

The bluetick and redtick lines are what I am most interested in but any info is great. I have three pups that are heavy Gunsmoke bred on top and the dam is a grand daughter of Blue Back.
Thanks

I had a female Bluetick Gunsmoke, and Jo Jo blue bred.I sold her because she was to slow for me, and very mouthy.I got her before I knew what ran like the style of grade dogs I have had.

We have to agree with Paul we have a male that is a litter Mate to His Female. All the Gunsmoke dogs that I have seen have a ton of Hunt
and will do it all day long.

I've had the old line of Gunsmoke blueticks for almost ten years now . All my dogs are ither bred by Jim Byram or bred from dogs directly from him.
As a rule of thumb there always rabbit dogs , go in the brush not around it. Medium speed , some a little better than medium. And i've seen some that were a little slower than medium.
Most have a good honest mouth when you hear them open the rabbit is up and running. Although as the other post said i've seen a dog or two who was a babbler.
To date i've not seen another line of dogs that would make me give them up. I guess to sum them up , there like all the other lines of dogs good and bad.

I am not an expert in breeding or bloodlines, but I do read the trial results . Gunsmoke bred dogs dominate in LP and PP, predominantly in the southern states. I don't believe that is any accident , it appears that bloodline can get with the program.

I have never been to a trial before so I don't know a whole lot about them. In the LP and PP styles what speed of dogs are the best? Any other info on these stlyes would be helpful.
Thanks

I have 11 dogs that come from this bloodline.Dogs either out of Tadpole or his littermate sister.I like the Chopper blood crossed up with Weir Creekblood. All are super rabbit dogs and do well in field trials also.
