hounds prime age

The old saying is that an old dog can't learn new tricks but just at what age will a dog reach when it climaxes on it's runnin skills?I had a very respectable breeder tell me one time that he didn't consider a dog a rabbit dog until the age of 3. Just wondering what some of your opinions are?

3-4 is when i consider a dog as good as it is goin to get.

4-7 give or take a year on both ends....keith
