PP style dogs can win in anything.......in my opinion.
Matt Glomski and Mike Copeland, just to name a couple, have proved dogs can win in PP and UKC. Dale Barnes had a Grand in PP that won an AKC Mid-West hunt, after only being entered in 2 or 3 AKC trials. I have never ran AKC but have ran PP and UKC, and I think there is no doubt a PP dog can do well in UKC. I will say in UKC the handler is 50% of it and must be outspoken and willing to argue.......SO KNOW THE RULES. I have been told you need a "PP tweener" to do well in AKC and they must be conditioned to run a long period of time.
Just my thoughts.
Take Care,
Randy

I personally like Small Pack Option, but I never did PP.

Randy, outspoken and willing to argue? Really? That would be better than having to suck up to judges in hopes of them scoring your dog.

. LOL
There are some hunt formats that I personally consider worthless for judging a beagle's ability. I am not going into my opinions here but not every format favors the same kind of dog. A good beagle should be able to win in any format.

I'm beginning to think that all formats are useless for truly judging a dog's ability. All are different and I could sit here all night giving the good and bad just on the rules alone. I don't need to see a trial to know. I've been to LP, PP and SPO trials and they all have things I don't agree with and I have read UKC's rules and they are no better.
It's to easy to watch dogs and see who is the best in a pack, why make it so difficult with 800 rules?
Just my opinion but that is the way I'm starting to think.

I had my Webster's Kate Lynn in a GDB Trial and the judge said she was too fast because the hound she was braced with could not stay with her.
The guy handling the other hound said my dog should have gone on, because she didnt have a brace mate that could run a rabbit as good as she did, but the judge didnt see it like that.
She is not too fast or I couldnt hunt over her, Im a bad shot

Tony your dogs would not have a problem winning in UKC!!! I just dont know if there are any clubs in Alabama. Come on up to Danville, IN to try one. I know it is a drive but I have seen you up here before. You can stay at my house. You are welcome anytime!!!!

I think Ole Swamper hit the nail on the head about beagle trials. The are some Champions in some formats that I wouldn't feed if they were given to me as a gift.
I do like to attend some competition hunts but I surely don't consider them as proof of a dog being a good rabbit dog.

Little Pack is NKC, Small Pack is PKC. They both have similar rules. I am working to have the Small Pack rules deleted from PKC. I don't see any way PKC can have a World Championship or Super Stakes program with 2 sets of rules a dog can qualify under. In my experiance, a dog that can win under the Small Pack rules could be scratched under the Hound and Hunter rules. The same thing applies to the Little Pack and UKC rules. There are some fundamental differences in the type of dogs that could win under the various formats. I personally do not think plus points should be awarded until the rabbit is circled and seen. That is what rabbit dogs have been bred to do for centuries. There are several formats where any track a dog runs is assumed to be a rabbit when it could actually be off game. I have seen plus points awarded on tracks my dog turned down. No rabbit was seen.
