4 of us from West Virginia are wanting to go snowshoe hunting this fall,any sugestions on a good guide and a place to go.---thanks

Im thinking about doing the same thing. I looked at Millers outdoors guide service. they look very reasonable.

I've got Millers video tape - it looks like the place to go to me!

I think there is a guy over around Elkins that hare hunts and will take a few buddies once in a while.

That same guy in Elkins knows a few people up north and may also be going up himself this fall. If you are interested in either, give him a call and he may be able to help you out.

We have hunted with Miller the last two years . Did we have a good time? Well we are going back again in Oct and it is about a 22 hour drive for us that should tell you something . One thing dont go expecting to kill tons of hare it is not likely you will . Most of the hunting is done in cut over paper mill timber the thicker the brush the more hare. Besides if you run one a hour or two before you ever see it let alone get a shot(they can jumpeight or ten feet at a time so be ready) it does not take to many races like this to kill the day. Make sure your dogs are in shape Chris dogs will be if you chose to go with him. Tracking collors are a good idea too sometimes the hare will take the dogs out of hearing. The hare are not to good to eat so go for the running not the meat. Who ever you choose to go with hope you have a great time.

We went unguided to the Adirondacks 2 years ago. Find a place to get off the road and you will find hare. I would wait until early November.

Yes go the the Adrondacks in Ny and I might be able to hook you up with a couple of guys up there. Or I might be able to go just depends on when and where you are going y son is asking to go go up there sometime this winter. might be able to get you a cheap place to stay to.

Pete Richardson in Northern Vermont has a guide service for Snowshoe Hare. Very reasonably price, and has good success. You can't go wrong.

I take a few fellows hunting every year from down south in northeast Maine- not far from the Canadian border. Given normal conditions and good hounds we average about 7 hare per day. Lots of elbow room and lots of game; in fact the population is extraordinarily high this year. December and March are our two best months. In January and February you'll learn just how good your hounds are but conditions can be tough with deep snow and sub zero temps. Travel can be tough too with frequent storms and deep snow. If you want personal attention, by all means hire a guide but if you just want someone to hunt with for a few days who knows the woods and can point you to some good areas I'd be happy to help you out if I can fit your schedule in with mine.

I have guided many for Hare up in the northern part of WI. We always have fun and kill a few Hare also. We dont start hunting until the snow fly's. November thru April. Call me if interested. 715-542-3192
