I want to find some people who have some TOUGH Coyote hounds and like to kill Coyotes over them!!!! I have some property down in Southern Indiana and it is COVERED UP with them. There is alot of land to run hounds down there and I believe with some hounds and people we could have a HAY DAY. I saw 7 different Coyotes down there this past weekend on the roads. These are private gravel roads. This would be a great place to run hounds and shoot some YOTES. I do not know if there is a season on them or not. They have to be hurting the rabbit population. If interested please contact me by email or PM. Thanks

Where exactly is this place in Southern Indiana. We run coyotes and let the dogs catch them. The dogs ran down and caught and killed 35 last year.
Running coyotes can only be measured in Miles. He won't run a circle in an 80 acre patch, he'll run 5 times farther than a snow shoe and do it 5 times faster. Running coyotes in Southern Indiana requires relativly flat ground and a lot of room between between highways. If a coyote gets into ruff country, your in trouble.

north of Evansville about 45 minutes. There is alot of ground down there. It would be enough to run coyotes. I posted this same topic on the Coon hound board and some people from all over want to go. They are into running coyotes like I am beagles. A guy from Canada said his hound caught 135 last fall. He runs greyhounds. There is about 12 square miles with NO major roads. What do you know about the laws and if there is a season.

Season is open year around for land owners or hunters that have their permission. The problem is, thats a lot of land owners to get permission from. Those kind of hunts work best if you go with a local that knows about everybody, especially the farmers considering that whose land you'll do most of your running on.
We go down in that part of the state a couple times a year to run with a guy that runs greyhounds on coyotes. It's a lot of fun and the greyhounds are great as long as they can maintain line of sight.....horrible noses but great fighters and lightening fast. Usually the race with a greyhound is VERY short before they catch the coyote.

Chris I was wondering how many hounds were usually run on coyotes.
Do you have to turn the greyhounds loose on a coyote or can the manage
to find their own coyote? Sight hound running of coyotes sounds like fun.
I hate those coyotes and I'm interested in something to do to cut down on
them.

A greyhound has to be turned loose on the coyote....horrible noses and that doesn't make for a very good jump dog.....just like in beagles. We run fox hounds on coyotes. Most of them are cross breed and some are 1/4 blood greyhound, they have the size and speed of greyhound plus the fight with about as good a nose as a runnng hound. just like in beagles, it's all in what your looking for.

Matt,
The guy that showed me Pistol the day I bought him is a good friend of Lee Clemens and Dick Powell. His name is Marty Hulett, he has at least one coyote dog that he said was pretty good and I saw afterwards where he posted that he was getting back into them again. You might give them a call. I went a couple of years ago with some guys and their dogs. What a blast, we got two or three that day but a bunch of fun. It takes good dogs, plenty of guys with radios or cb's and a good familararity with the area around where you are hunting and how to get there fast. I know where you are talking about and you could do it there easily and probably on 4 wheelers. Sounds like a blast.
