Ed and others, the very first issue of The American Beagler (Sept '01) had an article and plans (with photos) of pyramid rabbit traps by Ron Davis. This is the same fellow that wrote the article in Dec. '01 on the do-it-yourself kennel silence/water sprinkling system. The back issues are $3 ea. If you've been with TAB from the start, then you have it already. I couldn't tell you all of this on BB board because Mr. Baker will delete the post, lol!

Bev, you can also go on Missouri Department of Conservation site
they show you how to make them. They have a blueprint that you
can print out. All the wood you need is a 1x6x 10 for 1 trap, they have
2 different styles. Also on beagles unlimited they show how to make breeding burrows to put in starting pens.

Hey Bev, speaking of traps, Think maybe you could show these fella's a picture of the trap I sent you and maybe the plans. I don't have a scanner or anything to do it with. Have you caught any of those city rabbits yet? I am going to start trapping a few now since rabbit season is over.

Gee Trevor, I was going to print it in the March issue! We baited it and set the trap out yesterday - right here in the city. (we used dried fruit) We're gonna see if we can trap some yard bunnies, lol! I'll see if I can find a way to put it on the site, but you'll have to gimme a day or so.

That would great to see it in your magazine. I have just noticed on alot of sights people have been asking about traps and what type of bait to use and so on. And considering the luck I had with the traps last year I just wanted to share it with everyone. If you would rather wait and put it in your magazine that's fine with me.

Bev, Just wondering why you use dried fruit instead of fresh? I have noticed my yard rabbits love bird seed with corn.

Randy, Ive tried apples before without much luck. Could be that these yard bunnies have too much access to food compared to bunnies in the field. Actually the fruit isn't entirely dried like banana chips - I'm using the semi-dried apricots that come in trail mix, etc. I figured it might hang on harder to the bait prong, too. Checked the trap this am, no luck so I'm going to move it. (hope I don't catch the wrong critter - never know what you're gonna catch in the city, lol!)

Thornie; went to web site home page but unable to find search window to type in "rabbit trap" . Must be missing a step, guess you'll have to draw me a picture on how to find these plan s for rabbit traps.

I have always used a sliced apple for bait, along with spraying a little apple juice or vanilla in my live trap. It has worked OK so far, except for them danged possums.....seems every so often I go and check the trap and there is a big smelly, butt-ugly possum hissing at me in my trap. I cant stand them critters. They usually get quickly acquainted with my Ruger Super Single Six, then I havta wash out the trap to get that danged smell out so a rabbit will not be spooked of the possum smell.

Then there's the neighbor's cat.............

is there any advantage using pyramid traps as opposed to the metal havahart, or the home-made wire traps. My buddy has alot of luck using the wire traps. Only problem is if the rabbits are in the trap very long, they just about beat themselves to death, causing open wounds on their heads. He says yellow apples work the best, putting some small pieces in front of the trap and more inside the trap.

Lance, tell your buddy with the wire traps to try a smaller mesh and see how it works.I find with 1x2inch wire the hare I trap occassionally beat against the wire to get out. When I tried 1/2x1/2 in. I had no problems.
