How much do you feed your beagle

Post by weswhite19 »

I was wondering how many ounces you'll feed your beagles during winter time. I have a buddy feeding 8 ounces and his dogs look good. I feel like if i feed that little that mine will starve to death.

You will get a ton of different answers to this question. I increase what they get during the summer months as I see fit. They get run a lot more, they burn a lot more calories to keep warm, so I increase their food. I don't normally go by ounces, I feed by the measuring cup. The pup gets 3/4 cup twice a day and seems to be doing great on it. My female gets almost double that, as I am trying to get the weight back on her from the Diamond Sproting Dog Formula fiasco. She looks good now, so I will cut back and see how she does from here on out. I have switced food to Black Gold, so I don't have a track record to go off of yet. (But that is a whole 'nother issue :D )

I think you have to evaluate each dog differently and I think that's year
around. Some dogs will keep in shape on less and some need more.I don't think there is a standard.Even different dog feeds will keep dogs differently. However I do think it takes more in the cold weather and how much they get ran will also make a difference.I don't go by what my buddy feeds I go by the dog and what shape it's in.When youve had a hound for a while you will get to know what that hound needs. It's not a science it's a knowalge of each dog in your kennel.
This is just my opion and learning from having hound as well as other breeds for over 30 years.

Best of Luck

I feed my hounds 1 cup to 2 cups a day of 26/18 Blackgold. Seems when the weather is cold they need more,I also watch how much stool I get from day to day,if its more than usual I cut back alittle.

I feed mine 2 cups a day, pups get 1-1/2 cups a day. Depends on how big your dogs are, I've seen some pretty good size beagles on these threads.

I feed 2 cups per day, or a lttle less. If they leave food in there bowl I cut them back. I hate it when birds come in to the dogs left over food. I want the dogs to eat it all and get it over with.
