I have been told 1 year, but I don't think that is written in stone anywhere. By that time, they can have their traits that would require the collar pretty much cemented in their brain. I would be careful to put one on a young pup tho.

ONCE THE PUP CAN BE CALLED BY NAME AND READILY COMES TO YOU WITHOUT HESITATION, I'LL USE A COLLAR ---BUT ONLY ON A LOW SETTING!!! THEN ONCE THE PUP STARTS TO RUN RABBIT TRACKS AT A STEADY PACE, TURN IT UP JUST A LITTLE. ONCE THE PUP STARTS TO FIND, JUMP AND CIRCLE ITS ON RABBIT--THEY GET HIT PRETTY HARD IF NEEDED FOR WHATEVER.
BUT NEVER UNTIL THEY CAN BE CALLED AND COME WITHOUT HESITATION!!!!!

I start using them as soon as yard training starts about 4 months on low setting along with lead and slip,or pinch collar.
