Yes, there are some that do around here.
Went to a Brace trial week before last just down the road from me to just visit and it was over before I got there. They had less than 5 dogs show up I heard. I was about an hour and a half late.
The folks that have brace trials are usually older and their dogs are not breeding as they are too inbred. Sterile, dead births and deformity is the norm.
Great folks though, sure make a visitor welcome and they realize their sport with hobby beagles is dying. It's sad really. One thing though, they don't own or need shock collars for running trash nor for catching their dogs.
I wonder what they will do with the great running grounds and club houses they have had for over 50 years. Sure would make great starting and running pens.

Brace dog
I am new to the trial thing, so I would appreciate a definition as to what a "brace dog" is please. I understand that PP dogs are more towards the gun dog speed for hunting cottontails. I'm not interested in trial running, but then I've never seen it either. I'm just a cottontail gun dog type of guy!

Some of you people make me want to puke.
I might say that your cutting, slashing, cheating, cold nosed dogs are trash and have ruined the sport but I don't.
I wouldn't own a brace dog but I sure won't bash anyone that does. Most of these men has forgotten more about how to breed certain traits that you will ever know. Yeah, the traits may not be what you want or consider good traits (me either) but they are traits all the same.

At at certain time and in my little corner of the world back in the 70s, if you had an AKC dog it was a Brace dog and not thought of very highly by the rabbit runner, but I am not bashing just saying what we had around us.
I still wonder how all those AKC brace dogs became fast dogs again -- I know they keep some faster dogs up north back then, but not everywhere.

Well put John...I recall going to watch back in the 60s. I think that club has gone to a little faster dog. It seem to me like there was a lot of older men involved and they could stay involved with the slower type dog. I was amused how they could just walk along side of the dogs while they was tracking. This was just not exciting enough but was a way for them to stay involved. There was still plenty of faster dogs available for purchase . I remember a story a fellow told me he took him hunting dog to the trial for the forst time he said he told this guy ..welll here comes the rabbit and here comes my dog i guess i won...the old fellow said sorry son but it dont work that away..lol One thing for sure most dogs today we older folks would have to quit if it wasnt for e-collars...in most cases..

Ricko,
What you hear called "brace dogs" are dogs that have been bred to only walk on the line and I mean WALK!
You can walk beside them as they run and you better not walk to fast or you'll get ahead of them. lol

Ricko…in most circles a “brace dog” will be a dog that will potter and walk a line and never “move” or run with the line…thus the term “walkie talkies”. The AKC advertised trials that use/promote this kind of dog…will often refer to their trials as a Licensed Brace Trial. They are cast (laid on the line) in braces or pairs…thus the term, “brace dog”. To show a difference…those that use “gun dogs” at such a trial advertise them as a Licensed Gundog Brace Trial.
Hope this helps…
