Dog Food?????

Post by channellkat »

I've been researching all the different types of dog food out there and trying to find out what will be best for my dogs. I think I have narrowed it down to Diamond or Purina Pro Plan. It seems that they have less of the whole corn or corn gluten. I was wondering what most of you guys use and what you think about these two dog foods.

Thanks
~Fred

Diamond has went to crap, just ask around a little.
I talk to the guy that supplies Diamond with a mixture they use to use in it, they had a squabble over a price change so Diamond switched to something different, and it has been all down hill from there.
I am trying Black Gold right now and the jury is still out.

I feed Sportsmans Pride 26/18. I run my dogs 4-6 days a week for at least 2 hours each day and they never lose energy and their coats are all in great shape. Most of the guys I run with do the same. It's affordable too.

I feed Exceed. It has the exact ingredients as Pro Plan, and it costs under $20.00 for a 44# bag. The only down side is that you can only buy it at Sam's Club. It's Sam's Club super premium dog food. I fed Pro Plan to beagles and setter bird dogs for a long time, and I get the same results with Exceed. If you have a Sam's Club close, I think it's the best quality food for the money.

I feed High Standard. I was a BIG Diamond freak. Nothing but Diamond!
I was at a trial and the guy selling the High Standard told me to read the bag. It was the exact same as Diamond. My dogs really like it,look good and not alot of waste. My friend started selling it our dogs liked it so well.
A 50# bag (purple color) same as the green in Diamond runs $13.00 per bag. I also found that the Canine Red Cell is working really good with my dogs as a supplement. Gives them everything they need for trialing or alot of field hunting. I have heard alot of good things about Pro Plan if you like paying the price  Well I hope this helps you and you find the right feed for your dogs that works for you and them.Happy beagling!

Guys I aint blowing smoke, I talked to the guy who sells to Diamond himself, he said they refused to buy from them and they would buy somewhere else.
My dogs had been going down hill for awhile, I heard about the dog food deal by accident at a baseball practice for my boy.

As I have posted before, my dogs were losing weight and looking anorexic. Sure I have been running them hard, but nothing more than usual for this time of year. I increased their food and they still were losing weight.

I bought Black Gold and the pup (the one in the Avatar) perked up faster. He really looks good and is all full of P&V even after a day of running. My female is getting double rations right now to get some weight back on her and she is slowly seeming to pull out of it and is looking a lot better.

It certainly hasn't been so cold around here that I can blame the weight loss on the weather and trying to stay warm, because I added extra for that...

I haven't seen any change in the diamond green bag nor with the dogs that eat it. Is it all the types or just a couple that have changed?

Never seen Black gold in my area.
