I have heard of Mel Wood before. Anybody ever dealt with him. I was wondering if it would be worth a 2 hour drive to go check it out. Are his dogs good ones.

I'm sending my pups off to Red Briar Kennels up in Ohio sometime in March, and was wondering if anyone knew of a starting pen close to the Northern Panhandle of West Virginia. I live in New Martinsville and would at least have my pups sight chasing and know what a rabbit is before I send them off.

Ryan, Willard Brown has a few pens. He starts pups, I think. He lives at Wayne. I've been to his place before and He seemed like a great guy. He seemed very passionate about rabbit dogs.
Lonnie Berry used to have a starting pen at Chapmanville. Im not really sure if he starts dogs for people anymore or not.
Larry O. Harrison has a pen at Sissonville and he has started dogs for people in the past, you might try him.
I don't know any of these guys phone # but you might try to call info..
Hope this helps

Bluehound, I have dealt with Mel. He should have something for just about everyone. He will let you run a dog before you take it .i doubt he will give a real long trial in gun season, but after gun season you could get a week or 2 probably.
