Rabbit hunters struggling with hitting fast little targets with shotgun...

Post by Chris »

Discussing #1 reason I see for many of the rabbit hunters I hunt with struggling to be fast and accurate with their shotgun.

#1 Reason for Shotgun Misses + a possible FIX for FAST Shotgun Accuracy

Thanks for that video Chris. Pointed out something about my shooting that I've always known but it reinforced me to do what I know I need to concentrate on.
I'm not a rifle shooter so for me I'don't always think about laying my cheek on the comb and sighting down the rib. For most of my hunting career I've done mostly small game,up-land birds and waterfowl. My tendency is to bring the gun up,be looking at the game but not have my cheek down on the sight plane.Must be pretty lucky cause I manage to take my share but oh those misses and I'm sure that's the reason.

Learning to shoot with both eyes open helps too.

Interesting. When my daughter began trap shooting, which was the first time she shot a shotgun, my first advice: mount so you only see the bead above the receiver (no barrel visible), put it on the target and fire. However, the instructor swears they need to have their head higher, seeing the barrel with the bead, keeping the bird above the bead for easier tracking. This hasn't worked. The gun had a foam pad installed that keeps her head held higher and pushed right (shoots left eye) and shootng paper consistently hits high and right. Contact with the birds has almost disappeared as I think frustration has led to target panic and she rushes the shots.
