I believe alot of the differences in the costs of brucellosis testing is wether the vet does the testing "in-house" or if he has to send it off to a lab to be read. I checked all the vets in several surrounding towns to me and I got prices from 90 bucks (sent the test off to lab) down to 25 bucks (done in-house). One particular vet office I called, the secretary and a vet assisitant neither even knew what brucellosis was (now thats scary!)! I dunno what the national average is, those are just the prices I was quoted in my area. :???:

$57.00 (sent out) plus $49.00 office visit. TOO MUCH! I will call around for prices next time. I also had a thyroid panel done for $42.00. My problem is I did the Brucella test too early and will need another Brucella test before I breed her because I am taking her to a show in two weeks..........Live and learn.

sounds like vets charge whatever they want.

Vets charge whatever they want for anything they do. Just look at the price to get vaccinations done at the Vets office and what you can buy them for. Takes a couple of seconds to administer a shot. Besides most Vets don't do the work anyway their Techs do but when it comes to them using their expertise such as surgery then I think they shoud be paid accordingly.

Last year I had ever dog in my kennel done which at that time was 9. I called around and prices ranged from $17.00 to $65.00 all were to be sent
out to a lab for testing. The $17.00 1 was a vet that is a old family friend
and the deal was that I helped so he didn't have to use his tech's and of coarse I was more than glad too!
