snow conditions in Alpena or Atlanta MI

Post by Guest »

I was wondering if anyone could give me the snow conditions up north. I am thinking about coming up and hunting but might stay home and deer hunt the last weekend. Thanks in advance

Smitty,
I have a friend that lives in Mio. I'll give him a call and see what it's like up there. We are headed to Houghton Lake for New Years day for a quick Snowshoe hunt. Just wondering if anyone knows if the Hare have started moving out of the timbers into the swamps?

Worked last weekend, but got out after pats on Monday for a bit. Saw some pretty good hare sign in the swamps, so I'd say "Yes."

Sounds like we are going to have lots of wind starting Saturday afternoon and all through Sunday. They are calling it a blizzard. The wind should be coming from the NE and that is when we get the nasty ones.

I'll be hauling hay on Sunday so if it's too windy to hunt, you can help stack hay. ;)

We plan on hunting saturday morning until around mid afternoon. I'll have to take a rain check on the stacking hay. That is summer work! Have fun though. Do you know how much snow is up there right now?

It looks like about 6 to 8 inches of snow on the ground in Roscommon with a pretty good little storm coming in now. It's plenty easy to walk around in but just right for chasing rabbits. Sounds like you should be okay. Have fun and let us all know how you did!

Thanks I appreciate it. Where abouts are you in Roscommon are you located. One of my good friends has a cabing right off from M-18. What would you say the hare population is around there? I usually hunt up around Atlanta, Hillman area because that is where our cabin and 80 acres is. I was up there and it seemed like the hare were a little up from last year in spots and down in others. So many yotes!

I'm just off M-18 near Dally's Party Store, NE of Roscommon. The hare and rabbits both are still pretty much the same. I have actually seen a few cottontails on the roads lately and haven't seen that up around here in quite a while. Hopefully they are on the upswing now.
