Daimond Feed...

Post by Chris »

I've been talked to about how good Diamond feed is, but Bev, as well as a whole lot of other beaglers. I figure it's time to try it. I called Diamond directly and they put me in contact with a wholesaler here. He's going to drop off any bag that I want to try, to see if I like it, but I don't know which one is best.

My question is...
Which bag should I try? Which bag of Diamond do you like best? I remember something about a purple bag, I think, that Bev mentioned to me before, but really can't remember. The dealer mentioned a price of $16.25/50# bag of the green 26/18, and about $20/bag for the 30/20 (if I buy 5 or 10 bags at a time), is that the purple bag? He also mentioned that I might want to try something called Premium Edge, I think it was called. Don't know anything about that, so tell me what you know.

My dogs are real active, and I'm feeding a combination of 30/20 and 26/18 now. Anyhow, what do you think I should try? And, are those prices decent for those particular Diamond feeds???

Chris, that's not a bad price for 50 lbs. We are feeding the 24/18 (green bag) We fed the purple bag, Hi Energy, for about 9 months. Hi Energy was originally developed for sled dogs. It is high fat yet kept the weight off. Only problem was it kicked our dogs' metabolism into high gear and they slowly lost weight (beyond what we wanted). So, back to the green bag we went. I'm not a big fan of really high protein foods. 26% is adequate in my book.

Look for their coats to start shining. We can take a dull-coated hound into the kennel and within a week of having them on the Diamond, their coats get slick and shiny.

Diamond Dog Food

Post by J.C. Blair »

Chris,
I have been feeding Diamond for the last year and can honestly say it is the best feed that I have fed, and I have fed a little of it all..... Good quality feed at an economical price. One downfall I can see is that it is rather hard to find their products in certain areas. My local Tractor Supply Co. store here in Georgetown keeps about 4 different kinds of Diamond in stock. Here are the kinds that I feed................

I feed the Diamond Maintenance 21/12 (I think) in the summer time, when I am not running dogs hard. It usually runs about $14.75 per 50 lb bag. (Yellow Bag)

During the fall and winter months I feed the Diamond Sporting Dog Formula 24/20...It costs around $16.00 a bag/(Maroon bag)

I raise my puppies on Diamond Puppy Formula 30/20 @ $21.00 per 50 lb bag (Purple and pink striped bag)

I think you can do no wrong in feeding this brand of Dog Food.........Keeps dogs healthy and in shape, not as much kennel waste, and best of all my dogs love it...lol Hope I have been of some help.

GUYS AND GALS, I STARTED FEEDING THE HI ENERGY DIAMOND (30/20) JUST THIS SEASON, NOW I DONT FEED THIS AT 100%, IM MIXING IT WITH DOG CHOW. I WANTED TO TRY IT AS I HUNT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE AND WANTED THE DOGS ON SOME HIGHER PROTIEN AND FAT CONTENT FOOD. I LIKE IT AND THEY DO TOO. STOOLS ARE ALOT FIRMER FOR SURE. ALSO I ONLY GIVE 14.50 A BAG FOR IT DOWN HERE IN BEDFORD INDIANA. FROM WHAT IVE SEEN ON SOME OTHER POSTS, THATS CHEAP.

I feed the Diamond "Original"(Pinkish/Red bag) all year. It is between the Yellow bag and the green bag and pay $14.90 per 50#. As far as im concerned there is only one other company that can compete with Diamond and that is Black Gold. I dont think you could go wrong either way.....Black Gold is higher around here than Diamond is.

I really like the diamond I have feed the green in summer and purple in Winter until lately, and my supplier went out of business. What is the deal with black gold I have tried it twice and I need a backhoe to clean the kennels with when I feed it , it is worse than old roy on my hounds . I'm I not giving them proper time to adjust getting the wrong kind or what ? A lot of my friends like it and have feed it for a long time. Right now I'm feeding excaliber it is decent but not Diamond and I llike the thrifty by Sunshine but it is hard to find.

I have been feeding the green bag, 26/18, for several years now. It is the best feed I have found for my dogs. :D

Diamond Feed

Chris,
I don't think you'll go wrong with Diamond Green bag 26/18. I have feed our beagles Diamond Green bag for over 16 years, yes I have tried other feed but always come back to Diamond Green bag in couple of months or less. This is what works for us, Diamond Green bag Otober/June and Diamond Red bag (called Diamond Original Receipe) July/September. Hope this helps.

Diamond Dog Food

Post by Stone Cold Beagles »

I feed the diamond maintancence ( 21/12 )year around, But starting in November I mix it with peformance ( 26/18 ) at a 50-50 ratio. I run a little more harder hitting dog than most and have found that on the straight 26/18 they are like kids on candy, they get pretty keyed up. Thats just what works best for my dogs. I would imagine that a little slower and more conservative hound would probably do very well on the 26/18 or even on the 24/20. by far the diamond puppy food is the best that I have ever used.

I switched to Diamond during last summer and it's by far the best that I have tried. The stool is firm and makes cleaning my concrete floors easy. Tom Gross

I switched my beagles and coonhounds about 6 months ago to Diamond maroon bag 24/20 and would not change feeds again if they gave it away. I may switch between the different kinds of Diamond but never another brand. I get it at Tractor Supply here in Tn. and the green, yellow, and maroon bags are about the same price at $16 give or take a few cents. For what its worth, my hounds have trimmed down some fat and bulked up in muscle tone and not change activity level. I feed less than I did with Purina and they are in much better shape and health. Even my vet said they looked healthier since I switched. Oh yeah, lots less waste and lots firmer for easier clean up.
