Beagle pups
What age do yall take your pups off of puppy food?

Now let me say what I do, about Puppy Feed. It all depends if you want them pups to be 13" or the Bigger 15" type Gun Dogs ! I under stand its all about the blood line and if they from a larger breed type of the smaller type,, but you sure help control their size with the kind and Amount of feed you give them pups, at weaning time up until they 6 months old !
I have at this time a red tick male pup that was in a litter of 5 pups,, I usually get 15" Gun dog from this cross. So I was wanting to just see if I could keep one male under the 13" so I sold all the other pups, and keep this one male I keep him on the same feed that I feed my gun dogs,, I use a good feed mad here in Ga. called "Ol Blue" made in the next county so I go to the mill and buy my feed 12 bags at a time its always Fresh and its 21% protein and 18% fat. I also like the Southern States 21%/ 20%fat for the pups if I have them in the Starting pens at a younger age.
Now here is what, I have just witness, from my small Red Tick male that I kept in the litter of five pups,, a fellow from Ala. my the name of Mr. Larry Meeks and his nephew came over and bought three of these pups, two male and one female at weaning age. Like I said I kept my male on the same feed that I was feeding my Gun dog pack,, I didn't let him eat all he wanted,, just once a day I feed the pup, enough to keep him looking good.
Mr. Meeks called me a few days ago wanted to see if I would start his two and the one that is nephew had bought,, so I took them in, and I was amazed at the difference in their size,my pup was about half their size !! Now I started my pup at 4 months old and he has been ran everyday for the last few weeks,,
You can control the size of your pups to a degree, by the amount of feed and they kind of feed, is my experience..

I normally keep mine on puppy chow til there 3 or 4 months old and then I switch them to my regular food. Buddy boy 24/20.

the pup i have now is 5 months old and i just took him off puppy food and now im feeding him a 26/18 feed which i also feed all my dogs
