I know they have to certify by running solo to become a champion, but not until they have two wins and 100 points in pack competition.

If the progressive guys believed that much in the importance of soloing, shouldn't they have to solo first? Then if they proved they could solo they would be eligible for pack competition. The way it is they have to prove their worthiness in a pack first. If they can't compete in a pack it doesn't matter what they do running solo.[/quote]

Just like any other sport......The regular season is the pack hunting the super bowl ring is won by soloing!!!!!!!!!!! I couldnt resist. Happy hunting fellas.

I love running at least 2 dogs at a time and prefer 3-5 just for the extra music. I think soloing holds value but I personally don't have time to spend soloing my dogs much so I don't. I'm also not kennel blind and recognize my dog's faults even when in a pack. I can tell who is doing what in most cases just by listening to them although I do spend time chasing them around a little just to see who is doing what. I took out a Sadie and Hemi last week and in the beginning Hemi was putting it to Sadie but by the end she was whipping his butt. I could tell in both cases who was doing the bulk of the work just by what I was hearing. Something I am very happy to say is Hemi is very good with his mouth and I can tell when he is getting little scent just by how infrequent he barks if he's running second. I also like to watch Sadie verify a track with her own nose before she barks in on the track too. Most of all I like to watch them interact with each other and work together. It's funny to see Sadie wait for a few confident barks before she'll hark in to him and he does the same.

If a young hound can get noticed in a pack like this, they get to stay. Excuse the quality it was my first try at video. It is pretty windy probably about 10 degrees with spotty ice patches. The Tri-color leading the pack most of the way is Dixie she is 11 in this video taken last year in February. She can't keep that up for very long now. The Black female that catches the check over the hill just finished this past Summer in AKC with 5 wins. She is Dixie's Grandaughter and solo can run the same speed. I cannot stand a hound that needs to be solo'd The youngsters that were lagging were 4 months old. They now get a good bit of front with the same hounds and can jump and run their own.

I'll give my 2cents worth on this. I am a fan of soloing a dog, not all the time but it will improve a dog, not that i think I know everything about beagles. But if you have to many dogs to solo your dogs every so often you have way to many dogs.

That's your 2cents worth??? Trying to tell people how many dogs they can own???
First I've been told that I have to solo MY dogs....
I run the wrong hare habitat.....
I shouldn't run on plowed roads.......
I should quit videoing my hunts and start shooting the hare....
All on this one thread, now you want to tell me how many dogs I'm allowed to own?? Who the f#@k are you to tell me how many hounds I am allowed to have on my property????

Budd that 7 year old dog has cought more hare than most packs and I dont think he would have with out the solo time,as it makes a dog smoother most the time.

How many hare do ur pack catch? Or I should say how offten or if they catch them at all

$100.00 down that Budd's dogs will put Chapo's dogs to the truck.

Just ask Chapo to go running Budd. He said my dogs were brace style but after a few invites to my running grounds I haven't seen what he calls fast dogs.
