Judged Oh Jackson a few times and he beat my butt about everytime I ran against him. You talking about a dog that was smart. Never seen a dog that could swing and everytime it swung right. Then when he had the front the dogs better get thier butts a moving cause he could roll and handle the front by hiself or with a pack. I guess thats why when he was stripped of the HOF he just kicked alot of butt and went from open to Grand Ch. to hall of fame again. He was an exceptional hound. I assue he has pasted now so RIP Jackson.

Not taking anything from Jackson because he was all that plus more. You should have seen his sire run, Cody's Sharp Mikie! Then you would understand why Jackson was as good as he was.

Never did get to see him run to my knowledge but did get to see a few hounds out of him run and they were all nice the ones I seen but they wasn't as good as Jackson in my opinion. But don't get me wrong cause I am not trying to take anything away from them but it takes an exceptional dog to make the hall of fame and then to be stripped of it and go all the way back as an olderr hound thats almost unbelieveable. :D

Mikie was special he had a sixth sense that was unbelievable. It was as if he thought like a rabbit, "If I were that rabbit, which way would I go and most likely that's the way the rabbit went. On a scale of 1-10 his speed was a solid 8 to 9, he ran with his nose about 6" off the ground and on a hard check he would hurt you when he would swing forward on a track to the point where he could smell it good and drive home! Mikie was the real deal and then came Jackson!

Speaking of fast dogs, do any of you remember GRCH, 2001 World GCH Denny's Blue II ? He was owned and campaigned by Walker Bros. Kennel. He would gut dogs. I've judged him several times and saw him run at the 02' World. He destroyed his packmates will to run with him because of his speed and front running ability. I remember him running in the NC State hunt when he lapped the cast. At the same hunt in the final, the one dog he ran against didn't score one point and they ran for 50 minutes solid. While running in the VA State he did the same when a second rabbit was flushed he began to run it, then left that track to get back onto the original. This was all done before the rest of the pack caught up. I'm guessing it didn't smell the same. Blue was no joke. He made lots of dogs quit and even more owners and handlers dispise him. But I won't name names, it would be too embarrassing.

I was blessed to to run and hunt with Mikie a few years, most powerful hound I've seen and I watched him eat more than a few rabbits, was as tho he was possessed when running. I remember Merle talking about what a nut he was his first year, then as a two year old "WOW", Josh & Travis had put some hours on him.
Those pups you couldn't lay up, they had to be ran.
You look through the old Rabbit Hunter Mag and Mikie had full page list of wins, Joe put him out in front of everyone to see and run against. Would have loved to seen him go on hare, hard tell'n what county you'd have ended up in...
Travis came by maybe 6 yr ago now, and said Joe kept Mikie in the house (retired), afraid he's blow his pump if let out to run. i'm sure he's long gone now but boy what a hound.
Seen a bitch last year wheel a hare and she flowed along the trail through the juniper and off through the wood as tho following a ribbon. She held her ground right behind the hare for three circuits passed me going out of hearing each time, my buddy hound got in with her on the last and all he could do was try to keep up. I'm waiting for a pup out of her... ;)

Since we are bringing up old world winners what about JRHS Possom. She had alittle fiest in her but man she could run a rabbit. And she could fly. I tell you about another hound who could run and was owned by Johnnny Miller. Her name was Rockbridge Annie. Had her at GrandDaddy's getting her ready for the MO state one year and we were running at Granddaddy's favorite spot. She led the race the whole time we were out there but she had an advantage seen something that day I've never seen done before. The dogs were running a rabbit straight toward us well there was a 4ft. woven wire fence between us and the dogs and they were rolling. Well the rabbit goes under the fence and and here come Annie rolling right on the track. She never missed a stride when she came up on the fence she went right over the fence onto the track and kept going to the hole. I've seen deer jump fences and thats pretty neat most deer either slow down a little to jump and then they have to take a split second to recover but not Annie she was so graceful and didn't even hesitate a little before or after the jump she just hit the track and was gone. WOW you would had to been there to understand what I'm talking about. But these are just two of the hounds who come to mind. :D

Update, Mikerma's farmer Clem gets his first win at Atlantic Club, :D Canada. He banged heads with a FTCH all day and they ran steadly fast. I guess that "Duck" and "Superdog" do throw the speed. He's a really nice looking fella too.

These are Few dogs that I have in my Kennel.

1. Paycheck and Big Meadows Cross. This Little Girl is the Fastest Dog that I ever owned. I'm not saying she is the Fastest, beacuse I learned every time I say that, I end up eating my words. I want to say Thank you to Brian and Jackie Heywood, for this Little Fire Cracker.

2. Line Breed Turbo. This Little Female, Has great Speed, Line Control, and a Great Nose. She went to her first Trail Two Weeks ago a won her First Cast, and ended up Second in her Cast, this past Saturday, (She lost the Cast by 15 points) She Placed top 10, in both Trails. She is out of Dogs Named Sport, and Chance. I would like to say thank you to Ed Smith, for this Little Fire Cracker.

3. Line Breed Blue Back. There are Two of them. Male and a Female. These Two are just 9 Months Old, and are showing a lot of those Great Blue Back Traits.

The First Two have me very exicted for the Fall Trails. The Blue Backs need some Ground Time. They will be ready this Spring.

"quote"
can not believe that a smooth line control hound has not been mentioned.
This is not a drag race the rabbit turns and back tracks and plays all kind of tricks.
The smooth track dog will dominate more times than not here in Indiana

Still no mention if we are talking about track dogs, me tooers or swingers????

The post stated that it was about fast beagles. As far as smooth verses speed. Well thats another thread altogether.

From what I have seen the slower a dog goes the more tricks a rabbit pulls. Ever watch a rabbit being chased(walked at) by brace hounds? They do all sorts of little tricks as they have time. I think there are many good dogs listed that run a decent line, maybe too fast for some, but a decent line. I dont like a dog that herds a rabbit, but I do believe speed kills. Dont remember the last time I saw a brace hound catch a rabbit.

I am sure you could pick five hounds listed here and come up with something any rabbit would be smart to be afraid of, and will bring the rabbit to the gun as efficiently only faster than many other styles of slower hounds. JMHO.
