Are you talking about the guy with the Green Bay hound he calls Shootem Down Tank? I read THAT thread with a lot of interest. If you are, how did he do? (Tank).

Maple Valley , Trials are like football hell or high water(except lightning ) that makes every run like little girls lol! Most those that trial hard are going to go regardless of weather, some to get an easy win , some to see who has the big nose and others because we just dont know any better? This is the sport we have all chosen and those that are serious go to great lengths do compete.
I think Ron is right in regards to judging different formats produce different styles that is why we have so many styles and formats we run the ones that suit us best and some are never happpy regardless when or where they run. Judges have 1 guy that likes them and the rest think they are dummies.( I was being nice)

Well, I guess all this is why I have never trialed a beagle and probably never will. The coon hunting trials were bad enough but at least one had to have a dog that could hunt, find, strike, tree and have a COON seen before any plus points were awarded. I'm not sayin that there weren't judging and handler problems because there are many of them as well. Sure had my share of circle and minus points for all kinds of reasons be it the dog, me the handler, a bad judge or other slick handlers in the cast. Any registry awarding championship points when one doesn't even have to prove the dog did the above in pursuit of the specific game it was bred for makes me question the validity of the registry in the first place. Went to many coon hound trials where NO COON were seen in my cast with numerous trees made and went back to the club house with NO plus points. Sure could have championed out many more dogs had they been scored on every time they opened their mouth and put a tree, hole or place of refuge on the end of it as "I" know they were pursuing Mr. Coon! I ain't from Missouri but probably should be, as someone has to "show me" they are doing what they should be.

Tom ur very right it just sorta sounds puzzling as a competitor to award a hound cuz it hunted a little harder than mine, bearing the fact we never jumped nothin for quite sometime. I have no stake in any of this just giving the Kentucky version of trying to get it. How can i reward positive points for Nothing. My take is a rodeo a champion Bull rider comes out of the chute the bull stands there for 8 seconds never giving the first buck, should a succesful ride be given. As for me i think not.

Do you know why most people do not trial? They cannot handle the truth about there dogs. Always blame lossing on the buddy system when most of the time it is they just need to dog up. Get mad if you want but it is the truth. I know there is times when you get beat by the pencil. I will bet you there has been days when alot of the big trialers out there felt the same way. Has it happened? Why of course does it happen every time? Why NO it does not. If the dog is good enough they can not take it from him. Alot of folks want to talk about trialing and trialers and are scared to even try it anyways. Do not want there fellings hurt. Some guys have on blinders when it comes to there own dogs. Just facts. You would be surprised at the guys out there that can only hear there dogs bark in any race.

As well as "everybody hates a winner but they all want to be one" That is as true as they get's right there!

I do not sale dogs. Look on here see how many you have seen me post. If he does not suite me. He is done away with. Not saying I have a good dog or a winner. I gun hunt first trial second. I trial what I gun hunt. Have ever been penncil wipped yes. Have I ever just been out dogged more than once. But you carry this to the bank and write checks on it. I NO WHAT A RABBIT DOG is.

How a pack runs ,is usually in the hands of the judge. He needs to know what dogs are blowing up the pack. He then needs to get them picked up quick ,then he can find the best dog in the pack.

Went to a trial with my grandpa last year. Dogs were pounding when the judge said for him to pick up his dog. He went in and got him came back and we were sitting around and the rest of the dogs couldnt run nothing. Pretty darn quiet. Now if the judges are so good at picking out the best, why were we standing there with the only dog that could run on the leash? Thats what I dont get about these trials.
