SGC is talking about my female that passed away last year, thanks sgc she is sorely missed. That being said I have dogs now that routinely run in those conditions, from December (most years) thru March. You guys go ahead and have fun with Kurt, he can take it. I think maybe some feathers were ruffled because he didn't come right out and say we look for days like that. More often then not we run on days old snow like that, (deep and powdery) and it is much harder when there are tracks that are days old plus the fresh ones, fresh deep snow is a pleasure to us,not problems, numbers of bunnies in the bag do not relate to a good hunt. Go ahead jump on my butt too if you want, I also am in the phone book. We'll run, but don't expect to shoot a bag full as most likely the snow will be hanging on the trees and brush and many times the bunny will be by you b/4 you hear the hounds as the sound is deadened and the hounds will sound like they are 200 yards away as they cross in front of you and you wonder where the heck did the bunny go. I used bunny as the changing of the r to a w causes a sore spot in me. Hare

Hare Hunter,

I'm sorry to hear that your female is gone. It sounds like she was a good one. If klrconrete's post was like yours this post would have died 3 pages ago.

I agree w/ everyone actually :) He does primarily run cottontail as do I and I want my dogs to run cottontail before hare in "bad" conditions. But as some of you said, and I think you are right, if I lived in the far north where conditions were as described for 4 months during hunting season, I probably wouldn't run the dogs I have now. Either way, those were some nice pics and I'm sure you all still had a good time, even though the running wasn't as good as you had liked. Maybe next year go earlier/later when it's a little warmer.
