Why are pups so hard to raise anymore....

A shock collar will break a dog from barking persistently, guaranteed. If it doesn't then the dog lacks brains in my opinion. You'll never keep a beagle from barking at other animals that come on your property but if you have one that barks too much, even playing with other beagles try the shock collar. You have to teach them when they are young for the best results. I good old fashion scolding never hurts either. I use "NO BARK" voice command at mine and it works really well becaue they know if they persist they will get a scolding. I have broke two dogs from kennel barking using this method. And, don't be afraid to light them up if they keep barking. I usually don't hold down long but have the setting up above 2.

i got one beagle that is very smart or very dumb one i can put a bark collar on him n he will not make a peep in the kennel but the minute i take it off he barks when i even come out on the porch or walk to my truck n at feed time he drives me nuts i have lit him up several times but i cant keep a collar on him around the clock i would get rid of him but he is a RABBIT DAWG DELUX as very good gun dog he is 6 y/o n trash free i run him without tri tronics even in deer woods when he hits the brush i forget all about his nusince barking he gets to go most of the time just to shut him up at 5 00 am big ole bgawl mouth that will just about shatter the truck windows is he smart or dumb

Try putting a dumby collar on him. He is just hard headed. It takes a lot of persistence to break some dogs and that is why it is best to break the dogs of excessive barking at an early age. It takes continuous effort on the handlers part to break some dogs of this fault. I personally will not a keep a dog that will not be broke of endless barking no matter how good they are. Those type dogs will drive one nuts. You may want to invest in a bark collar as another option.

with the help of a tritronics bark collar and the water hose we have very little barking from our 20 plus beagles. And if in order to keep Beagles one needs to debark...does that help the breed

How does is hurt the breed as a whole Betsy? They still make noise, when they are bred they still produce beagles with voices which you can listen to and determine if its the type you like for hunting. They can still run. If your home all day I suppose you can hose down your barking beagles or run out and strap on a bark collar but, what about those who are working and aren't at home during the day to know what racket the dogs are making? Maybe you don't have neighbors or new subdivisions creeping up to your fence line? I do and I have to keep them happy.

That kinda sounds fun!!!!! LOL I'd like to use it on the stupid a$$ border collie that comes down the fence line to tease my dogs! grrrrr! That sucker is just too fast!!!!!

Genetically it makes no difference if a dog is debarked or not. If anyone wants a dog with an ear drum shattering bark, bawl and sqwal (when chasing the cat) I have the studdog for you to use. His daughter inherited his volume and propensity to bark and her mothers melodic howl. She will be debarked eventually because I prefer my dogs NOT wear collars in their yard which has lots of brush they can run and play in, and boy do they!
De-barking is awesome if you're not hunting with your beagles...shock collars work, and I use them, but leaving collars on my dogs all day makes me nervous. I never left halters on my horses either.
My dogs aren't bored, they just like to bark and I have a grooming business in my home so with people and dogs in and out all day and neighbors too close for comfort...I do what I gotta do

Has anyone ever had this happen? This happened a couple of years ago. I bought a bark collar and put it on one particularly stubborn barker. He began barking one day and it started shocking him, progressively harder. He continued barking until he started squalling from the shock. I ran to him and tried to remove the collar. He jumped up, ran around me and bit two holes in my leg right through my jeans. I found him a home on a farm where the new owner didn't mind the barking because he kenneled him inside a barn. He was a really tough rabbit hound, too.

Most of the better bark collars quit shocking at a certain point. I haven't had any problems with my Innoteks.
I have had two dogs get stuck in the Invisible Fence shock zone and sit right in the zone freaking out screaming not knowing what to do. I had to run and pick them up and move them, risking getting bit myself but what else is there to do in such a situation?

One bitch blamed me for that for a year, the other one has a heart of gold (Mary) and was grateful to be "saved." They both learned the boundary and were fine after that but I do the "on lead" training longer now! I think it ruined the resentful one as far as showing went, but she wasn't that great to begin with and is long gone to petdom.
