About 7 years ago I was beyond the point of frustration trying to trial in the MW but never stayed down much past the 1st series. Shawn Fetty called me up one night and said there is a male for sale that would be competitive if given a chance. I jumped on the situation and took a pocket full of cash to the mines with Shawn, Wags, Kevin, and Tom. Kevin pulled this dog out of the box named "Lightfoot"....To be honest the dog was fat and probably the ugliest beagle I have ever seen in my life. Kevin and Shawn assured me that I needed to see him run....that night Lightfoot hung in there check for check and we sat around the fire cutting up half the night while the pack of dogs pounded. This was the first time I really experienced how fun beagling could be and finally "got" what the attraction was.

I arrived home the next day with my new prized possession...my wife met me in the drive to see this trophy of a hound I had been telling her about. I got Lightfoot out of the box and her exact words were, and I will never forget..."Kelly, are you sure that is even a beagle"....then she disgustedly walked away shaking her head.

Fast forward to the trial season and after many hours of me sleeping swampside listening to Lightfoot pound for hours on end....My wife decided that traveling and trialing sounded like a good reason to go shopping down south so away we went. By the end of the day she was collaring up Lightfoot and making sure he had plenty of fluids. I remember her saying "Lightfoot just got that check but the judges were down over the hill and didn't even see it"....she was getting kind of loud and I kept trying to quiet her down. :annoyed: Anyhow, Lightfoot won that day and from that point forward my wife understood the passion behind beagling and how much fun it can be....she has never gone to a trial since then but became more understanding of my hobby.

Lightfoot is still alive and well at almost 13 years old and even though I have a FC in my kennel his grit, drive, and desire is still what I measure every dog I own.

Unlike the huge accomplishments I just read about I guess I am saying my greatest moment in beagling was acquiring an old ugly fat hound with an odd messed up name because otherwise I was about to hang it up for good. :D

Thats pretty good Kelly, Shorty (my best half) was a great assistance in helping finsh abby as then big girls ran on friday. She was all about abby they really bonded and she really liked shorty better than myself. I would head one way with junie and she would head another with abby. She was placing awfully consistant but never getting a first. We headed to Jackson one weekend and abby and shorty headed out on a cast. Well when they come back she was fit to be tied and cussing like a sailor.
Whats Wrong honey? She informed the judged picked abby uop for something possibly off game. What i ask? Abby was a straight bitzh from day one. Well earl was judging and i spoke to him, i value his opinion he had no reason to screw me. Anyway shorty was getting pretty loud in the clubhouse, i took her outside and basically told her to shut up, well hell man she was ready to fight me too. Boy o boy she was a handful that day. Funny though i always told people "Sitting on that tailgate bs is alot different than running on top of those hounds" Anyways Abbie finished, i am still married and life is peaches and cream.

A lot of people know my son Austin Robertson. He is in a wheelchair he was born with spinabifa. We attend a few trials and I have a lot of memories of the hunts. But fellas we run just about everyday rain snow it doesn't matter to Austin every time I have great memories everytime we go. He is ate up with dogs. They are what keeps him motivated. He is my personal computer with what a perticular dog is out of he knows his bloodlines. We're running his pride and joy now Big Hollow Si. What I reckon I'm trying to say is I thank god every day for a wonderful boy and his good health I should re phrase boy man. One memory is when his dog won a derby back in March he was only 8months old at the time.

Everytime I see Austin he makes my day! He is such a great young man! He does know his dogs! My son has a bone disease called Perthes and he is on the mend to a total recovery and is showing interest in dogs again. I respect you for giving Austin such a good life and a chance to get out to run dogs and attend trials! You are a great father and a role model for the rest of us. Hope to see Austin win again!
