Re: Best BloodLine To Have In Your Kennel
here is my 2 cents worth, and thats not much but anyways, no secret i am a huge branko guy, i mean double linebred branko stuff top and bottom and as much jack as you can get, regardless, but my daddy and grandfather used to fox hunt, now only run beagles with me, they had 35 to 40 foxhounds at a time and would raise as many pups as they could have never once bred to a dog with a title, not saying there is anything wrong with that, but they had success, i have bred to a dog with a title and without and can say the pups are about the same, only difference is one dog was trialed the other never been in a trial, but same running style but what i made sure of was the male complimented my female and vice versa, ok back to my dad and grandfather they had some very good hounds that would run all day,all night, they would leave on friday and come back home on sunday evening, there dogs where on the ground foraround 40 hours every single weekend, they only bred what they had in there kennel and believe me they knew how to breed dogs, cause if there is one thing certain in this world is that my father like his father my grandfather, would not feed a dog if it didnt first hunt and run every second it was down on the ground and second if it didnt have a nose and third blazing foot. my grandfather was and still is the hardest judge i have ever seen on a dog, he culled as hard as anyone in the world believe me, and oh they wopuld listen to him better then his kids, he has always told me that when you breed a dog you breed something that will not only give you good pups, but the pups will give you good pups, REGARDLESS IF THE DOG HAS A TITLE OR NOT, and i have seen this first hand thru him he has always said that majority of the time the pups will be more like there grandparents and great grandparents then they will ever be like the mother and father, i have seen him breed 2 of the most timid and shy dogs you have ever seen and he said quote; ill bet you a day off of work that every pup in the litter will be just as friendly and bold as any pup you have ever seen, guess what the old man was right, cause he knew what the gparents threw, he has always said if you cross 2 dogs that compliment each other there grandparents better compliment just as much and he never had any papers to base his breeding on it was all in his head, just amazing, i think if we had a few more of my grandfathers in beagling today we would have a lot bettter dog then we do today, he has told me time and time again what he would do to a couple of my dogs and otheres he has seen if they where his, i think we as a whole myself included, cull just a little bit harder and , take a longer look at our own kennel before planning big things with big pedigrees. just my 2 cents, not trying to offend anyone, kinda got carried away thinking aboout the old man and those weeekend fox hunts, sure miss those days.

Re: Best BloodLine To Have In Your Kennel
THANKS, ITS FOR SURE IN MY BLOODLINE, (WHICH I HAVE AN EX WIFE THAT DIDNT LIKE THAT TO MUCH) , SURE HAVE A FEELING IT WOULD HAVE BEEN IN MY DAUGHTERS BLOOD AS WELL, ONE MORE THING, BEFORE I EVER BUY A DOG, PUP OR MAKE A CROSS, I ALWAYS ASK MYSELF WHAT WOULD THE OLD MAN DO, WOULD HE BREED THESE 2 DOGS OR WOULD HE OWN THIS DOG OR PUP, I CAN HINESTLY SAY THE 1 TIME I DIDNT DO THAT I PAYED FOR IT BIG TIME, TALKING TO MY DAD OR OLD MAN AS I CALL HIM GRANDFATHER ABOUT DOGS AND PUPS IT KINDA KEEPS ME GROUNDED AND NOT CAUGHT UP TO MUCH WITH PEDS OR TITLES AND SUCH, IT WORKS FOR ME. TURNED INTO A NICE POST.
Re: Best BloodLine To Have In Your Kennel
Jeremy,
Wow! What an analogy! Lol I didn't say breed to pieces of crap. I was just saying sometimes producers are in hiding. Lots of great dogs out there you never see on the trial circuit.
As for Jedi and Cougar, most of Jedi's pups are still realitvely young yet. But from what I have seen he is producing with many different types of females. I have two really nice ones. There was another one I saw in a couple of derbies last year from around Irvine, KY and it was killed later in the year. Most of his breedings have been to local gun hunters because they have seen he is a real rabbit hound. He has hunt and produces hunt. He produces a hound with very good foot, nose, brains, and hunt. I think they are complete hounds. People are missing the boat here I promise you!!!!!!!
Cougar of course is getting up in years. He is 10. He will be staying for a few more months. There have been 7 females bred to him in KY. Three brought that were gone out of heat. I lost a litter because the females milk didn't drop. I tried everything I could do but it didn't work. Another of the seven developed a hernia and lost all the pups before it was discovered. So that leaves 5 litters if they all make it. One was born yesterday, the guy called me and said she was having them, another is about 10 days old and I will breed a bitch today. His record speaks for itself only been bred about 20 times until the last year. The Blackburn's bred him some in Michigan last year and I have bred him here. He finished 2nd and 3rd in Better Beagling Sire of the Year, two years in a row a few years ago with this few breedings. He had 5 hounds place in the MidWest last year. His percentages stack up against any dog. Just think several of the popular studs have been bred 100-200-250 times and the FC they have produced are the same percentages. He has good foot, good hunt, close check work, excellent check work and very good nose. He is nice dog, even at 10 yrs. old. Cougar's mother was FC Boot Scootin Boogie mother so there is plenty of foot there.
Both hounds have produced 15" dogs also! I look forward to the next couple of years because I have plenty of pups from both sires out of a FC bitche, proven hounds and some nice younger dogs.

Re: Best BloodLine To Have In Your Kennel
No matter what u bred, always look for hunt.Btw Abby mother was junies full sister bred to Iron Eagle, Another stud dog over looked by the masses till it was too late.I am sure the best studs out there are the ones we have no clue of, once again how do we measure sucess? I love too trial but its more of a hobby theses days than a requirement, and the best thing to me on owning a fc is seeing there name in red on a pedigree, pretty cool.hubertsoutlaw wrote:I have seen some Pine Mt dogs go. I think the junie dog and the Abby dog of jimmy abshire is Pine Mt. His Abby bitch was the real deal, no matter how she was bred. I have seen others out of pine mount and they was pretty good. I guess I would say the best thing I saw in the hounds is they hunted. That matters alot to me. Usually about a 7 or 8 on foot. Ran the line pretty good, but was agressive. That Abby dog ran a great rabbit. I really, really liked her. I know the old saying (feed what you run and like what you feed). This post was to see what the pros and cons of the bloodlines that we run today. To try to build up the best lines and hope that people would see what they like and try it in there back yard. I have see so many people on here over the years say( The best dog I have ever seen is this old boys, cousins, uncles dog that could beat any of the accomplished dogs in AKC, UKC OR ARHA. Yet, it never got trialed). I am hoping people will improve the beagle standard and breed to our formats accomplished hounds. It is easy to breed to your uncles, cousins old boys dog that has brought 100 rabbits around. If your dogs can't bring that many around, it usually not the dogs fault. People need to be more proud of the sport of beagling, and pay the $150.00 or $200.00 stud fee. I can't speak for other formats, but in Mid-West, If it has FC infront of the named it earned it! You Can Bet Your Ass On That!

Thank you Jeff for the info. Blair, you are just jealous! I am going to get Hoog to sign my hat. MR TURBO! As far as the wrist surgery, I will put it off due to the post going extremely positive! Except for the couple that have to make the jokes. I kinda feel sorry for them, they was probably the ones that was getting made fun of when they was kids. LOL
P.S Jimmy how does it feel to see your dogs name in RED. Blair sure don't know. AKC Baby! LOL

Hubert, you know I'm just messin with ya little buddy. Always have fun talkin to ya at the trials. No I probably won't see their names in red, considering I don't have the time to promote a dog due to working a lot of weekends, but that may change soon.hubertsoutlaw wrote:Thank you Jeff for the info. Re: Best BloodLine To Have In Your Kennel
I have to agree on the foot and hunt of Turbo dogs. My brother has a double turbo female super fast hunts like crazy. She can be a little wild if not ran in. But when we crossed her with my Boomer male who is directly out of Buzzsaw and a Rabble Rauser female the results were amazing. The offspring are turning out to be better than their sire or their dam. And we have made this cross twice. So I do believe that the ability to cross well with other bloodlines is a great trait that the Turbo stuff seems to have.

I am having real good luck with Gay/Shaker/Branko-Dingus Which is the line when the cross was made with Dingus Mcrea and Branko Annie I dont where the size is coming from but all my dogs are blocky built and 121/2-13 inches with a speed of 7-71/2 with great line control
