I'll stop by the pharmacy and get the supplies. Think I'll pick up some rubber gloves too

Rubber gloves may help holding on to slippery pups. But I know why you want them.LOL
Most dogs vary from 100.5 to 102.5 you'll only know her normal temp if you've checked her before. Since I know you haven't just look for the drop like Ronny said. If the temperature gets up to 103 or above you have a problem, probably with infection and need to get to the vet. I've had litters before with 4 or 5 delivered fine and then deliver a bag with a dead one thats turning the fluid green (not good) Then deliver 2 or 3 more that were just fine. Your experiencing all this for the first time and with a female your very attached to, we've all been there at one time or another. You know the dog so thats good, just keep an eye on her and you'll realize if theres a problem. If and when she starts having pups she will become very restless, you'll definately see contractions and she will normally whine and pant big time. Lathargic is a problem.

Don't be disheartened Joey,
I believe you may indeed be seeing a couple of pups... :D
If your breeding was on Feb15th, the eggs were not down in position until the 18th, your bitch could have assuredly have had her eggs fertilized then by living sperm from the breeding on the 15th(sperm can live 72 hours in the womb). Fertilizing on the 18th would make the whelping wheel land on the 22nd April (63 days). A small litter can often go over a couple days, while a large litter are often liable to a early delivery.
Unless you've been feeding her water melon seeds, I'll wager you to two big pups...
ps...I love the innocence of this thread and your willingness to learn, your a good trooper... ;)

Going along with the above, I just watched a program on the Animal Planet channel that followed the entire process of a puppy being concieved through being born. They actually said the male sperm can live up to nine days in the female. It does this by attaching itself to the wall of the females tubes and waiting until the optimal time to fertilize the optimal number of eggs. I have always heard 2-3 days so I always bred twice, 2 days apart and always been successful. Now Iam hearing 9 days. They say this is the only animal that does this. Just something else to think about. Hang in there Joey, hopefully everything will work out fine, Brian.

ok guys Wednesday April 22,2009

last night I stopped by the pharmacy picked up gloves a digital thermometer and some lube. I felt wierd showing up at the counter with these items but none the less I was a man on a mission.

So I get home get it all ready get daisy out let her run around a bit. SHE WOULDN'T HOLD STILL. Well I could see why. I had to have my brother come out and hold her for me while I took her temp.

99 was her temp. Only took it once and that was hard enough for me to do.

So what are your guys thoughts on that.

and when should I take it again.

I'm still betting on 2-3 pups. This gyp was in tip-top shape when he bred her and he kept her in shape. Unlike some who only use females as puppy factories, Joey runs his gyps and keeps them in excellent physical condition. So, it makes sense to me that she didn't balloon up like a basketball. JMO

Hang in there Joeyman! Man, I wish I lived closer--I'd come over and sit up with her for the next few days

I so would like this to be true........

There are some on the board that think PUPS and some that think NO pups....... :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash:

How much longer till I should absolutly take her to the vet. And if I do take her what do I tell the vet. I know the obvious. What I'm meaning is should she get that shot one of the other board members suggested or what???????

I'll be driving 50+ miles away from st.louis down in the sticks where they don't cheat people = not over charge

Me, myself, I'd take her to the vet, tell the story and let the vet decide what the course of action should be. One thing that's almost certain---an ultrasound or x-ray will be done, or should be. I'd find the money somewhere and go ahead and take her.

Keep an eye on that temp. If it goes below 99, get your catchers mit ;) will usually go withen 24 hours.

Watch her eating habbits. A bitch will usually go off her feed close to delivery time. Not always though, lol. I once had a bitch that would pop a pup, eat a bite of dog food, pop a pup............... They are all different.

Also, longest I ever had one go was 68 days. Pups were fine.
