i have an older tt classic 70, i like it & use it. i bought a sportdog & had a lot of range issues. sport dog worked with me for 8 months untill i was happy. at no cost to me. sport dog imo has the best customer service you can get. i now use my sportdog more than the tritronics & love them..

I have had several TT units starting with the first ones they made. They are electroinc, more than likely the boards are built elsewhere and TT buys them in Bulk. I think its safe to say that they also recive bad parts from time to time, they should test them but even that dosn't mean that all parts will last as long or work the same. I had one system that I sent back 3 times, the last time I got it back it was fine and is still being used its 10 years old. I have always been treated well by their C-S department but I'm sure like ther equipment they get some bad apples from time to time. I have never had a TT system that didn't have good range not to say that that there are not some out there. I know that TT has broke alot of hounds and stopped several trash chases all over the country. Its a shame that you were treated bad,I'd call and talk to a supervisor and get it strightened out. I hope you get satisfaction out of this it's a big investment and needs to be made right.

I have a TT g2 exp trashbreaker and love it! when they say it has a 2 mile range they probably test it on flat ground with no obstructions in the way, so it then probably does have a 2 mile range but when I bought mine I knew the kinds of valleys and tough terain we have so thats why I got the trashbreaker it might not get 2 miles here but it will reach out farther than any other system I've seen. My father has had TT for years and they always treated him good and I've had Dogtra and TT and liked both of them but I switched because I wanted a 6 dog system

Interesting thread.
In the last week my three 4.5 month old pups started a rabbit chase then disappeared for five hours. I try not to tone them in until I am sure they have lost the rabbit because I do not want them to quit. Both times I let them work a long check before I knew they were gone. They were within 100 yards of me during the last check. I couldn't understand what the heck is going on because they handle really well and come right in on tone. By the time I figured out what was going on they were over the hill and out of range. They came home at 11:00 PM both times they disappeared.
To make a long story short, I just tested my old G2 two dog system on a flat road and they were were working at .8 miles until I crested a hill so I am sure they are true 1 mile collars.
My new EXP would not work past 1/10 of a mile. That explains why my pups just kept hunting and never paid any attention to the tone. I am lucky a yote didn't get one. Where I run behind my house is like a jungle and visibility is about 20 yards and is full of ravines and runoffs. Very difficult to walk throughit this time of year.
Guess I will get a first hand experience with TriTronics come Monday. The G2 EXP (Series 70) is 1.5 years old. When I get the transmitter back I am selling it for $150.00 to anyone interested. I will be selling the tansmitter only and keeping the cradle and collars in case I buy a different system with more power.

I have been experiencing trouble with my G2 Exp Trashbreaker. I noticed that the dogs weren’t responding to the tone or shock button. I called Tritronics and they told me to send it all back. When I got the unit back, they said one of the collars was bad, transmitter was OK. I took the unit it out and noticed the same response with the dogs. I decided to take the unit out to a flat road were I could get at least a mile range. No electric, telephone wire, cell tower, or gas well. When you call Tritronics that is some of the things they blame, also you must be away from your vehicle. I couldn’t get past ½ mile range with it, and I am able to see the person holding the collar. All I really want out of a collar is when I got a dog running trash and I can hear it. I want to be able to reach out there and touch him no matter what kind of cover he is in. Hearing distance isn’t too much to ask for a 2 mile rated collar. I know when they tested the range they go out to the desert, were it is flat, no tree, nothing to obstruct the signal. I would like to know how many dogs are hunted in those kinds of conditions.
I called back Tritroncis and told them I was still having the same trouble. This time they said it sound like it was the transmitter and they would send me a new one and a return label to send the old one back. This unit the dogs seem to be responding to. I haven’t taken it up to give it the road test yet.
When I have called Tritronics the people have been pleasant, but I have notice they do try to get you off the phone if they can and have you call back.

I am sure glad I went and road tested mine today. I sure would have felt bad if I sold it to someone in the condition it is in. :ashamed: Guess it wan't a terrain issue or a new model issue after all. I bought it new near the first of the year 2007 so it should still be under warranty. I was going to put it up for sale on the board or ebay today.
It is going to be sold as soon as I get it back. I need the trashbreaker where I run. Looks like I have a buyer but if that changes it will be posted on the board.
I still have faith in TT.

I upgraded from the multisport units I had to the new ones and TT was very reasonable and helpful with me. Sorry you had a bad experience. I agree with some of the other folks here that you need to go up the ladder to someone in a supervisory position. I have noticed that none of my collars, in any brand that I ever owned, worked as well in summer as in winter, I have been told that this is due to the density of the weeds and things the dogs go through here. I am certain that all distance problems are due to the transmitter, as the receiver on the collar will work as long as it gets a signal from the transmitter. Those that don't reach out and touch them like they are advertised have nothing to do with the receiving aprt, but the transmitter isn't powerful enough. Sounds like TT is sending some stuff out that they have to know isn't reaching like it should. I suggest you guys get together and make some noise.

Talked with TriTronics Monday and they gave me an authorization number to return my unit. Said if they confirm the problem with the transmitter they'd send me a brand new one.
So far, so good. :D

I can't complain about Tri-Tronics at all. I started using them over 20 years ago and have had 4-5 units over that time.Usually trade them in for a newer model every 5 years or so.Up until my most recent unit I'd never had one single problem with them at all.My G2 EXP did have a range problem with one of the three collars that I have and I called TT and it was under warranty and they sent me out a new one right away no questions asked!I thought they were great to deal with.
I purchase my units from the Collar Clinic. These guys are not manufacturers and sell several of the differant models available. They will tell you straight about any of them from their years of experience that no mater whose collar you are talking about that you will get about half the range that the manufacturers claim in real life hunting situations. That is because they test in flat open terrain to get those claimed distances.Terrain that is hilly with thick tree and vegetation cover will definetly reduce range.
Collar clinic does sell some of those other models you all are bragging on but if you ask them straight they will tell you they think Tri-Tronics are far and above the others.
