I still say this is the best board going. Guest posts are interesting but do get out of hand at times.
Farwest wrote: It can becomes refreshed when a new person surfs on and wants to ask a question. Lots of these questions will not be asked if they have to go through the trouble of registering. I know it is hard to believe but some people are just not that good with a puter.

Anyone that has a computer can figure out how to Log in. Then think of a Username and password. Bam...your done.
I just had my 7 year old daughter see if she could register on here. She could.
I too love new people coming on here or any of the other boards, but is it really that hard to log in? Is it really too much to ask for someone to be courteous? I know for a fact that if I ran into anyone on here in person, that I would smile at you, at the very least shake your hand, and have a good laugh about some of the nonsense that takes place in this old world.
Where our friendship went from there would be totally up to us.

Darrin,
Good post. I've been thinking about those very scriptures when thinking about the "guest" thing. Evil deeds always like to be done in the cover of darkness or anonymity.

Have mercy on us all if anotther change is made. As much respose as this has made. The majority isn't always right, that is why we have leaders. The people I have ledin my life usually didn't see the big picture. That is why they questioned me at times. Not a problem w/me. They learned in time with experience that they could trust me.
In summary; be a leader and let the ones that trust you follow!
I have always had a good time on this board because of the crazy peaple on here. _ _ _ _ _ low sweet chairiot.

I love the good fun on this board. I have never met a stranger in my life.

I'm somewhat of a pack rat. Especially when it comes to messages in my e-mail box. I stumbled across this one just now and decided to paste it here just as a reminder to all of us of the effect we can have on others in the sport:

Bev,
I had been meaning to write and tell you what a great magazine you
have, and the announcement that TAB will carry UKC events must be my prompt to do so. Congratulations!
One of the several things that distinguishes TAB is hunting boards with
exceptional content, not only the variety, but also the substance. I see more compassion, encouragement, and generally upbeat responses here
than in any of the other internet bulletin boards. This is a wonderful thing and I hope it will continue.
Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas."

You make it hard to stay off this one.
I see part of your point(Knowledge being shared by good people helping others), but the main point of this post is allowing guest, and at that time(Dec. 2002), this was an open(non-have-too register) board.
To be openly honest, look at who was here posting and being helpful at that time. It seems to me, alot of those who are gone, gave up or were driven off, not by "guest" but by people with names or handles on here who had different views and either were so rude and persistant, hope of open thought and consideration was not an option.
I got tickeled once, when someone ask, why is Branko or any of the other big name houndsmen and breeders not on here. Well, just look around you, consider all thats been said, and make a guess...lol
Why would they? What is to draw them here, what is worth their time?
The pool gets shallower all the time, depth is lost as sediment fills in. The population has over comes the fertility, so stunting is the result. Is the winter kill next on the agenda?
I try to keep the glass half full in my mind, but the change has to come through the people, not more and tighter rules. We must become respectful of each other and at least learn to listen. Ignorance prospers when minds become closed. If you cannot argue your point with reason and fact, you have no foundation for support and your either left to concede, or as is most often done, resort to malice to cover your short comings.
Until we commit to ourselves to make this effort, the downward spiral will continue.
It's true, this board will be as good or bad as we choose to make it, but the change has to come from each of us

Maybe you could identify for me who is actually gone from the crowd that was posting here in Dec 2002, or was that just a general statement that we've lost some productive members, and lost them because of other rude members and not rude guests? I agree there are a handful that no longer visit, but I see the reason why from a totally different perspective.
The only trend I see here is that back then I was on this board every day, editing posts, even posting myself daily; it was more heavily moderated by yours truly, and most people knew I wanted to keep this board "civil" and open for all registries. It didn't seem so bad back then because I was always cleaning messes before many of you would see them. What I have posted in the last 2 days is probably more than I've posted in the last six months. I'm not in here like I used to be. That's why I appointed Aaron to be a moderator. I'd get an e-mail from someone complaining, and come on here to see flaming, vulgarity, and other inappropriate stuff that lent nothing to discussion or debate. The posts were signed by "guest". Sadly, some were regular members posting anonymously under "guest", and many were first time or newer actual guests. They harrassed people trying to sell their dogs. They made lewd comments on other threads. Where did these "guests" come from while my back was turned?
Because I'm such a pack rat, if I had the time to go through the 800+ messages I have stored away, I could probably show you a few folks who left the board and exactly why they left the board. Besides the flaming and fighting, there were a lot of threads junking up the board that had nothing to do with beagling, or just became somebody's two-sided conversation - a substitute for communicating by e-mail. A lot of
"what are you doing tonight?"
"nothin'"
"ya wanna go run dogs?"
"sure"
"that pup you gave me is working out nicely"
"that's good"
"okay what time do you want to meet?"
"whenever"
Not that this is such a bad thing, but it offers nothing to anyone else.
Then there were times I got complaints about every single thread being turned into a "busting chops" match among a select few. Good natured teasing is fun now and then, but it doesn't need to invade every topic. Some of those members quit complaining and just went away. There were serious topics being turned into a private circus, and they got tired of wading through the broth to find the meat.
Consider this a guess, but Branko and other big-name breeders and houndsmen don't have time nor inclination to play on the computer. But, if we follow what I think is the meaning behind what you said, then we do ourselves an injustice by not cracking down harder and censoring some of the hound/bloodline slamming that goes on. The big-name breeders and houndsman would be more likely to visit and share what they've learned with the rest of us. They won't if they come here and read crap-talk about their dogs all the time.....just because it's someone's right to express their opinion, regardless of how rude it is or inconsiderate to a fellow houndsman. Well, great, but don't wonder why they aren't here then.

I don't think asking people to register to post on the board is horribly restrictive or detrimental to the free exchange of knowledge by honorable men.I try to keep the glass half full in my mind, but the change has to come through the people, not more and tighter rules.
Patch,Well said.I know a few i see on other boards that never make it over here.We MUST police ourselves and not have to worry about what we feel is proper and just being censored, locked or deleted without first showing us the same respect as the web site administrator, monitors and etc. demand.RESPECT of self and others.I feel we all can work on that and improve and inturn improve this site.I feel the administrators or whom ever has control of this site, should outline their responsibilities they are going to extend to thier viewers for their continuous and proper behavoir. We are given guidlines we must obey to be a part of this site but given nothing in return.I have chatted with others that would not post here for fear of having their post deleted, locked, or left as a post but locked and all response deleted, without warning or notice to the poster. Some post takes a lot of time and thought and even if it has no value to you,it obviously did to the poster. It was on my mind and i said it..but it may not mean a thing and unworthy of the time it took to type it,oh well.
Do you ever notice when your driving down the road and you see a police car what you do?
You automatically look at your speedometer.
Not that you thought you were doing anything wrong, but just thought you better check anyway.
Have you noticed what you do when you are speeding some? You let off on the gas and if you are wanting to be conspicuous, you push down on the brake.
Now ask yourself, was the police officer infringing on your rights at that very moment?
Did just the sight of them remind you of the law?
Did you feel like you were living in a police state like China, because he was there?
If you were speeding and they gave you a ticket, would it be his fault?
Would you quit driving on the road?
Just thinking out loud I guess. I do "police" what goes on around my house, but if something were to happen or get out of hand, I'm glad I have a police dept. to call.
We can police ourselves, but what do we do when someone get's on here acting like a total mental midget?
Just thinking. May the Lord bless each of you.

Bopeye, cause i mentioned policeing ourselves was not the same as an officer of the police force, but sinse you mentioned it,it brings to mind, those that are in control are usually the ones that abuse that control,if it were not so,we would not need laws that govern those that are given the power to enforce the laws,so why not be given a way or policy to govern and control those that are in control of this board?just a though. Many companies are employee owned, why can't the user of this board pay the bill and in turn select a group of beaglers to carry out the policies governing this board?board members voted on and elected by other members yearly. The cost could be divided by the number of members and each member would pay x amount per year. You don't like what is being done on the board?have it sent to a panel of x number of elected board members and a majority vote would rule.A beagle board for the beaglers,by the beaglers, paid for by the beaglers.TAB could still be the logo,The All Beagler Board,or TABB.It does have a good ring to it.
