extra barking on a rabbit track..

it seems that alotof people associate the amount of barks a dog gives with how good there nose is... i dont believe that... we use the terms, cold nosed or hot nosed,,, to me it has no baring on the amount of barking.. either a dog barks tp much or it doesnt, how many times guys have you saw a rabbit, and 15 minutes later watched a honest dog work the track silently,, tail twisting up a storm right on the track.. then works it back up and its rock and roll time. and also saw a more loose dog in the same situation bark on that track,twisting up a storm and work it up and its rock and roll time...the same outcome just in differant styles of gettin it there....now i like the rock and roll style running, i like a dog that will hang a loose for an hour if it takes it.. but i want them to work silently until they can run.... I have a cousin that never hushes... we paid him 10 dollars to be quite for 10 minutes once.... well he did it but his face turned red he started sweating and when he was finished said he wouldnt take 1000 dollars too do that again....he just has to talk... and some dogs just has to bark...if you dont believe that nose has nothin to do with it, just use the ole tri-tronics when your dog is babbling,, he will hush up and in the end you will have the same out come,, he will more than likely get it up and rock and roll again....

If you hunt competitively, nobody likes a faulty dog no matter what the fault is. If you hunt by yourself, it doesn't matter.

bbg; this is my point exactly you call it a fault when there ' running mute ' and i do to... ... but i cannot see the fault if a dog silently works out a check....thats obserd.. it is no more a fault than when a dog barks here and there on a forward progress, i cant fault a dog for that.... but, to bark here and there is a far cry from pouring it out every breath on a loose, i cant stand that... my prefferance is the dog that works out the check silently and pours it out every breath when he gets it back up and running. the original post stated that the guys who have these barking dogs take every bit of the credit for working out the check.. when the more honest dog has done just as much if not more of the work.. that stuff is redicualus... and also that a dog that barks more has a better nose.....i like a dog to have a destinctive pattern when hes workin a check in '" forward progress" so i can tell what its doing.. bottom line is that some dogs are idiots and some are not......

.....sounds to me like we have another defencive hunter here who possibly ownes some mouthy hounds.. as for gettin me a RABBIT DOG.... We will go anytime in the daylight and the dog thast jumps the least rabbits we send to santa clause.....I got alot of money in mine thats why i can depend on him.. im ready day or night i dont care if your dog is 18 inches......

When a race comes to a stop due to the rabbit pulling a check I want my dogs silent. WHen they pick up the scent I want them to claim it with a authority and fire out of it. I expect this as well when they over run the line, shut up and come back to the line and when they have it go. I feel its lack of brains and self control. Even if they are inches off the line they shouldn't be giving mouth.
