I would not be surprise at all if these men on this video were goodlooking 25 year old girls, there be alot on here would say.I don t see nothing wrong with these dogs.

lol. Amen TC and rabbitearl!
As I've said many times on these boards, we have a dual club. 2 license trials. 1 for the traditional brace guys and 1 for us gundog brace folks. I work both trials, and my favorite part is at the traditional brace trial when it is my privalege to shag rabbits for a WWII vet. I've been doin it for him for 4 years now. Reallity dictates I wont get the opportunity to do it too many more times. That will be a sad day for me.
On a side note. All of you who are proud of having Hank's Jo Jo Blue in your pedigrees. Ha ha, well can you say a traditional brace hound with a little too much foot??????????
Put it this way. If your wife or your daughter is just flat out butt ugly I would hope the people on here would have enough respect, tact, and compassion not to produce 4 pages worth of thread letting you know it. Just sayin'

TC- Bringing up the fact that the guy you know who braces is a Nam vet has no bearing on the issue and is irrelevant... I don't care if the president did it. Its just odd to do and when people do odd things, it gets called out. No one said they should have their dogs taken at all, only that for hunting, and the original purpose of the breed it totally and utterly goes against what the dog was made for.
I mean its like taking a corvette and equipping it with a 4 cylinder kia engine.. People will laugh if they see you with it...
And its not only brace beagles that are used for drug/human/food sniffing... most any beagle will a good disposition can be trained to do it. I've seen one actually.. it cracked me up because all it did was sit next to the fridge and look at it all night

Thats cracked me up. It was neat to watch, not my cup of tea but oh well. Ive seen dogs that couldn't run nowhere near the track them dogs run lmao. Where does people get the ideal that akc try's to promote a better rabbit dog? All they do is keep records?

this post seems to be based on opinion, you know what they say about opinins. there like a$$holes every bodys got one. that foresure is not my thing but to me watching that video those ladys and gentlemen seemed to be getting as much pleasure as anybody. to each there own, even with more traditional running dogs, the run to catch type there will be different opinion on how that should be done.your opinion is just that yours. and this is still a free country so go ahead and post your opinion but to dismiss this style of dogs or to say thats it is wrong is not really your place.

These dogs are bred for accuracy plain and simple.

Thats the sad part and that whole idea is sad to me because if a dog cant stay on the line faster than that and still be accurate it tells me they have little to no nose or brains so whats the point?

to each his own, i just want to know how to pick a winner? i cant imagine a check and if you pull out to pass you are off line. so what are you awarded points for?

Re: Someone help me understand!
this argument isn't really like whether slower or faster dogs are better. i think we all agree that there is a preference and you can shoot rabbits or run them with either..
this argument deals with the fact that these dogs CANNOT run a rabbit... or even really walk it...
and I dont even know how accurate they are lets take an spo dog that has awesome line control and compare a 50 yard stretch and i bet the spo dog runs that line just as tight as the brace dogs on lots of occations.. its just in slow mo, so you get the impression they dont have checks or stray from the line...

Re: Someone help me understand!
lebro,
Here is the way its judged in brief.
The two dogs are put on the line when someone jumped a rabbit and spots where the line is.
When they both are opening and showing they are on it, they are unsnapped from the leash.
One always is in front and one behind.
Hopefully the one in front is the fastest because if it isn't the one in back will go under it and raise the front dog off its feet.
They are awarded points for staying on the track and for making forward progress. The one in the video blowing a hole in the ground would get a minus for that as its called hanging up. Anytime a dog leaves the trail, even with its head, its a minus.
After a while going that slow, the trail will get colder and colder and because of their breeding for a great nose, they can smell that cold trail much longer than my gun dogs could. Finally, the trail will get so cold they cannot follow it anymore and they will finish by "dying on the line" which is a good thing rather than quitting it like my gun dogs would have long, long, before.
Someone mentioned breeding for this.
Its much harder and takes much longer to breed for going slower and closer than breeding for speed and running off the track like my gun dogs do. These dogs have a much longer AKC pedigree of the same kind of breeding goals than any of our Beagles do.
That is why theirs are so consistent and most of ours are born with different speeds, out of a litter some better for different trial formats, some closer and some cutting and slashing, all over the place like I like my gun dogs to be!!!!
