We do have to have proof the docking was done by a vet. We also are not allowed to remove dew claws after 3 days. I have also used bands to remove them from a few older dogs. They have said these laws are all needed because of the puppymills, apparently they somehow debark dogs at the puppymills and this (docking and dewclaws) is a by product of the law made that prohibits doing "surgery" on your own animals. I am not a big fan of a docked tail on a beagle but I have had a couple that absolutely get wore down from blood loss. I could never get tape to hold. Now they are stumpy!

How could they prove that the tails weren't docked at birth. Maybe they were injured in an accident. That is another dumb law designed to harass people.

The only way they could know is if they saw the band on the tail/dewclaws. The bands are best because when they come off, there is no open wound. I am very lucky to have a vet with common sense. You are right it is just designed to harrass folks. Some of the things HSUS wants states to do is outrageous....

My dog Josh tail has gotten so bald that he is covered in blood 3 minutes in the hunt. I taped his tail for Thursdays run using duct tape. I will try to tape Jeb the next time as well if he will stand for it. When I got home I decided to take the tape off. I was suprised at the amount of holes in the tape. I really didn't know how much abuse these fellows take in a day. Try it and look at the tape at the end of the day.
