I do believe they were more prominant when beagles are mixed with a little something else. Never seen an AKC registered beagle that was a winder.

My Akc beagle did it once, was about 10 ft away from some briars, the wind carried itself over the briars and into our direction, my dog stopped walking and headed to the briars, hit em and jumped a rabbit out. Like I said he has done it once, waiting for him to do it again!!

My little Dingus female does it regulary. 90% of the time she works with the wind in her face. She jumps a lot of rabbits like that. I have seen her come up on her
hind legs and go 25 yards up the hill and jump a rabbit. It is fun to watch.

Gentlemen, that is what I call a jump dog.

Enjoy them, they are rare!

You will never forget them and will be talking about them in your old age.

the biggest thing i feel to Reember is That if you breed two Faults together your gonna get Faults you breed to get what your lacking
The Stud must complement the bitch...
that being Said the easiest thing I feel to breed for is Speed..the hardest is HUNT they either got it or they dont!!!
Oh And Casey if you can TEACH a Dog to hunt I got one here you need to come work your miracle on LOL
TC i know im not very smart but just exactly what does it mean when someone says the dogs must COMPLEMENT each other

I think he means you don't want to breed two dogs with the same fault. Find a stud that is strong where your bitch could use some improvements. He probably also means that you should breed two similar style dogs, breeding a slow dog to a fast dog isn't going to give you a medium speed dog.

Yup thats what I meant!!
it also helps to know the other Dogs in the line.
If you have a bitch that tends to throw slightly bent legs in her pups then you want to breed to a Stud that has better conformation than her.BUT it isnt going to help you out much if the Studs momma also had crooked legs....Breeding is always a Gamble I just feel that by picking the right Stud you can UP your odds a little. BUT also knowing the Bitch's Line you can Up em just a little more.....It has been MY experience that the pups tend to Follow the bitch's line a little more.

JOHN, TC, THE ONLY THING I SEE WROUNG IN A TRUE JUMP DOG.ONCE THERE GONE HUNTING IS NEVER THE SAME.I ve been trying to get anothe one in the last17 years.

Now on the question.I would have to go more on the male.Breed to a male two years ago that was natural broke on deer but would climb out of a pen.Well just last fall had two good female that started climbing out and now another one is doing it.13 years ago i breed another male that was my first natural broke breeding.Have 4 females that are 11 in june.never run a deer.So I think the female is imported but I would have to go a little more on the male with the things I have done. But thats just me.I don t breed that much.Just the things I have seen.
