Thanks Mobeagle

I did get you wrong.

Haven't seen any of those with curled tails in many a year. Didn't know any were still around.

. What breed of hound or cross makes the best kill dog?

I would think a Plott would. Do any of ya'lls dogs have Plott in them?

Do you raise your own or get the "trashy" hounds from fox hunters or coon hunters that would rather run coyotes?

We raise our own. My dad and my uncle had 20 plus runin hounds in the pen at all times before I was born and I've been around them my entire life. We raise our own and have selectively breed the best nosed tightest tracking dogs we can. Not all of them will fight but most will. If they've got the nose and tight tracking ability to run one from sunup to sundown we will look past the fact that they wont fight. Our hounds are bred to run when we want to hunt not when the conditions allow it. They'll run on the coldest and dryest of days and if they wont they dont make it. We have no plotts and imo they dont have the nose and stamina to run a coyote all day. Not sure if you've ever coyote hunted over hounds or not but we have 4 5 6 hour races all the time and it takes a long houred dog for that. Everything we have is either a walker or walker black and tan coonhound cross we've crossed up extremely cold nosed walkers and black and tans. Coyote hounds nowdays are getin the nose bred out of them by field trialers and pen hunters. Luckily my uncle has the old fashioned outside bloodlines but we eventually ran out of outcrosses and started using black and tans to keep the nose in our dogs and the black and tan coonhound is nothing more than a black virginian foxhound converted to the tree and they established the breed through selectively breeding the black and tan color until thats all the bitches produced. As far as the best kill dogs I'd say the croghan strain of the walkers is the best kill dog. A man by the name of bill croghan bred nothing but hard fighting good nosed walkers. Thats the foundation of what we run they go back to bill croghans stuff but our stuff through outcrosses as a whole doesnt fight as hard as the dogs my uncle got from him years ago. Still have a couple each litter that fight that way but he had entire litters that were coyote killers where we have one or two a litter. I'm rambling I just love talking hounds! Happy hunting! :D
