DRamey wrote:Cindy, I remember this being mentioned a year or so ago but don't remember your reply. Are or have there been any of your hounds in homes that hunt them or otherwise put them in the field? Just curious as to what style in the field that they may have if so.
My dog Joe has two pups he sired when Larry owned him that were doing okay in the field. I also have a couple of nice field bitches coming to see my boy (one is TC's pretty bitch) and I would sell a beagle to a field home that wasn't TOO old fashioned when it came to dogs. ;)

That bitch in the pic ran in a trial last weekend, didn't win a trophy this time for the field but took first place on the bench. She ran in a pack this evening for about 4 hours. People are always asking what the hell is she out uv... I just say some old cull I gave away. ;)

And she did it easy as Pie ;-) chicken pie that is! Whatever anyone thinks of those of us who choose to show our dogs rather than hunt is your own choice. I just plain LOVE seeing beagles run and the few times I've been where they were on a scent it was great but, there are only so many hours in my day and I have chosen to show my dogs. I have also saved a wee puppy or 2 but, never do I go overboard about it and I certainly do NOT consider a bitch that is having a hard time a "sorry mother" I will not let puppies die for no reason other than they need a little nudge. If something is seriously wrong there isn't anything anyone can do and I will not go to heroics. I've helped more than a few with a bottle now and then and when I do I get a better nights sleep which makes me a much nicer mother and wife. The great and powerful (hahaha) Parker man was bottle fed a bit as a puppy (my hubby can tell the story all day long) and he turned out to be a fine dog who has produced well and is healthy as the day is long.

BTW, Today is his 6th Birthday!! can't believe its been that long ;-)

We all have our ways and I respect each and every one here on the boards. One of these days boys I'm gonna come to one of your big hunts! I really am I know I'll have a great time.

Why thank you Miss Leah

I sure am glad you gave little Parker that bubby when he was a baby!!! I know a lot of other people that feel the same way too, and probably a lot more that DON'T!!! Cuz he has kicked some serious Beagle Butt and his puppies do too, especially our #1 Hound "UNO"!!!!

BTW guys, Leah and I went out with Mandy and Bill Bobbit and the pack at Aldie (the exact name of the pack escapes me) for a "Form & Function" seminar at Nationals just 3 weeks ago. It was quite fun and I fell in love with one goofy young hound who just loved to ignore directions from the Master, LOL, he gave us all some good laughs...trying to remember his name, it was neat. Leah do you remember it?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PARKER & MARY
(Mary is Parkers full sister I owned for a few years-- super bitch in all ways--now retired to petdom)

I haven't had chicken pie since me mum got too old to cook... think it may be extinct now.

I have been teasing Cindy about her dog, but in reality he is a fine specimen, you won't see many better made dogs anywhere, and the pics don't show how good he really is. We have only had one pup sired by him that was not a good rabbit dog, and that one was too mouthy. People who have bought them just won't part with them, and why should they... you can show, hunt, field trial or just pet hell out of them and they will get you some envious looks anywhere you go. If you have some nice easy bitches with plenty of mouth and you want to put a little more foot, along with good hunt and bench show looks in your pups, she's got the dog for you.

Well his wonderful little daughter that I kept is TOO MOUTHY, and she gets it from him! She barks/yips the whole time she is chasing whoever is playing the bunny at the time and it is loud as heck. I thought that was what you fella's liked in a field dog? Mouth? On the chase?

That racket won't work with the neighbors around here though and she will be getting debarked along with her SIRE who will be getting RE-debarked, in 6 mos. when she is old enough. He barks so much ya want to kill him, especially at feeding time, and he managed to bark his voice back by cripey! Bad, bad hound doggie ;) But I do so love the old bastard.

YES WE WILL be doing a breeding With Joe to our Dottie Dog who is 1/2 show 1/2 field and one of the best jump Dogs I have ever owned...
She Can and Will circle her own Rabbit as well as run with the pack and has the most OBNOXIOUS voice you have ever heard.....

I don't remember but, I know its name was called a LOT!! LOL

De-barking is the last option for some of us with neighbors who are on our butts constantly about the barking. Since we do not hunt our show hounds its not really hurting a thing but, allows us to continue on with what we like. Most of mine are Not de-barked but, a few persistent ones I have no choice. While it does go against the grain of what a beagle is bred for its also the only way in some cases.

I just received a letter from a owner of one of our show bred dogs who also plans to show her in Conformation. and I Quote...

"Thought I would give you an update on Hannah. She has started running with the pack and is BARKING. Yeah! I was so tickled when Jason come home telling me all about it" Hannah is a parker daughter.

Ya'll keep an eye out for "Windkist too hot to handle" ;-)

Oh and I must mention Cindy's "Joe" I saw him in the flesh at Aldie and he is a fine specimen!! beautifully put together, moves great and his temperament is lovely! I may be sending a bitch to him in the near future.
