The "Branko old school blood" is there if it has been linebred. I figured this is a no brainer. Just study the pedigrees. I have several crosses of Jack Of All Trades if I breed my two Branko dogs not to mention Ali-Baba, Heli-Prop, Poetry In Motion, Extra Trim, Copper Boy, Conna, Big Leroy Brown, Phantom Of The Opera, Double Anne, etc. This all goes back to Dingus, Anna's Anne, East Coast Trimmer, McBrides Fly On Snowflake, etc.
You may think you have Branko dogs but if they didn't come direct from their kennel then the choices are no longer Branko's or Frieda's so they are now under your responsibility to make the correct breeding decisions. I am personally taking what Branko's kennel has done and now making my own decisions. Good or bad what comes out of my kennel I am responsible for. As many here know, I like the Blueback dogs as well so I am infusing these two great lines and rolling the dice. So far I am impressed with what I am seeing.
I read these posts here almost daily and I see Branko dogs show up in many of the pedigrees out there so they must have done something right. I have heard Branko had some health issues and the Krpans also suffered a great loss with a fire where they lost much of there foundation stock several years ago and since have rebuilt their lines from good beaglers getting some of the old blood back in their kennel. Trust me, Branko blood is here to stay and will be around for a very long time. I for one will be forever greatful for the Krpan's contribution to beagling like 90% or more of my fellow beaglers. Not a bad percentage.
In addition, I realize there have been many great beagle lines produced stateside that have no Branko blood in them. The Gay dogs developed by Frank Reese comes to mind as well as many others. We should be imbracing what those have accomplished that came before us and showing gratitude and respect. At least that is the way I was raised.

I hear that. I've got a young pup who is coming along real well. This was the 1st time I've made a Branko X Blue Back cross, but from what I've seen from mine and heard from the owners of the other pups, it won't be the last.jonnyringo wrote:As many here know, I like the Blueback dogs as well so I am infusing these two great lines and rolling the dice. Jonnyringo, Yellowdog, and Rneil have summed it all up pretty well. All of us have hounds with Branko blood, and even own dogs directly from Branko. From that point on it is our responsibility to breed what we feel will make better crosses. If your hound didn't come directly from them you have no room to bad mouth or put down one of the greatest beagle breeders out there. However someone like Danny has had a bad experience with them, so all of should take note and then sit back and make our own judgment. I’m glad someone has the heart to speak up and tell there story. Will I hold anything against the Branko’s because of what Danny said….NO, but I will remember it and check things out a little different if I ever decide to buy directly from them.
With the internet we all have access to thousands of pedigrees to see how he did it. Most of us study these breedings and then go out and try our own twist. Branko was successful by picking those outcrosses and breeding the stronger dogs back into his blood. The dogs such as Harecharmer, Striker, and Speedy Sport are today’s examples of the old blood (outcrosses) he used early in his breeding. It wasn’t the big name males that gave him the most success. Everything he does is based around a solid foundation of females!!!
Give credit where it is due, and don't blame the man for your screw ups. All of my dogs are Turbo and Branko bred, but I’m the one breeding them, and I will stand by my litters by taking the good and the bad. I don’t have a problem acknowledging the fact that I’m trying to follow his blue print to success with what I have seen in his 20+ years of breeding. The man knows his dogs and is very successful in what he puts out. Not every dog in every litter is going to be the next big thing. So don’t act bitter when you get the one sour apple out of the bunch by gambling on his dollar.

I bought two pups from branko last year. A male out of warlock 350 & a female out of ombre 400 plus crate & shipping. Freida & Branko went out of their way to answer any and all my ? by phone & e-mail. They also made special arangments for shipping that saved me money. The dogs have all the traits Branko said they would & more. The warlock male started in the wild at 5 1/2 months & the ombre female started in the wild at 11 months, both dogs are running well & use there mouths right. Very happy with the dogs & the service from Branko kenals. His breeding program has helped alot of people own nice rabbit dogs. I hope he's around another 25 years++++++++++++++++

For a $700 pup they darn sure oughtta "go out of their way" to answer all of your questions..!! ( are you kidding me).....excellent hounds, top-shelf breeding. They're still a puppy mill...they still make unproven crosses and charge out the wazoo. They breed sssoooo many pups to get that top-dollar price, the 50% that turn out well gets all the attention..but the other half usually gets passed along to some unsuspecting beagler by someone trying to re-coup their money..or worse, an unproven Branko hound gets bred trying to cash-in on the name, and you have another litter of marginal hounds..!

Branko blood
I wish I had the historical resources to prove my point. I bet that the dog Rufus refered to (FC Northway Spur) produced more field champions per litter or bitch bred than any Branko dog ever. Why didn't the Northway kennels take off like Branko's? I am not knocking Branko's dogs, I have one and I am very pleased, it is just ironic how things turn out sometimes. Frieda has responded to my emails promptly and seemingly genuine and I am not beyond purchasing a dog from them in the future. You have to respect and envy what they have accomplished, but I am sure they would be the first to tell you they couldn't have done it without help and support. Good luck to all!

always boils down to supply and demand. they could probably price pups at $1000 a peice and still be sold out.

I believe it is called marketing. Microsoft became the icon. Not because it was the best operating system but Gates knew how to market better than Jobs at Apple. Branko has done a great job of marketing.
I wonder if Branko bred hounds are more popular in the lower forty eight than in Canada? There are a lot of LPH hunters constantly searching for snow nosed dogs yet Branko has a kennel full of Hare bred hounds.

From what I've seen, there is a reason you don't see many down here. Must be a location and condition thing. I don't know. Don't really care to be honest with you.

No doubt Branko has influenced todays beagle. Not many lines are not influenced by them in one way or another. I was a tried and true Brankosfan for many years. Never had the money to buy direct but there are people and breeders in the states that Branko trusted and you could buy "BRANKO" bred pups from them. Notice I said, was. How many of you guys that have run this blood for years think that he is producing as good a dog as he was before the fire? Lets get real. That fire hurt. I honestly feel that more of the "old blood" is being bred here in the states. Alot of these guys are producing pups with Ann 6,7,8 times in five generations. Dingus is easy to come by cause he influenced somany bloodlines. Same can be said for Trimmer. I just don't see the same kind of dog coming from Branko as we saw back in the 90's which is when he hit it big. Baba, Prop, Jack, Cassanova, these are the dogs that come to my mind when talking about Branko's influence. I hear tail that Branko has some Baba semen froze. Now with just the right bitch, it would be worth the money that he will undoubtly get for that.
Well AS I've seen a few down this way, wouldn't give 50 cents for a dozen of em. Not a lot of hare to run around here, might be good for fox, deer, coyote. What I like for here probably wouldn't be worth crap up in the frozen tundra.AlabamaSwamper wrote:From what I've seen, there is a reason you don't see many down here. Last I checked they went for around $400.00 not $700.00Greensprings Kennel wrote:For a $700 pup they darn sure oughtta "go out of their way" to answer all of your questions..!! Many pups sell here stateside for $300.00 without the success or name of Branko. Seems fair to me. Why do people think beagles should sell so cheap? Go buy a Rottweiler or a Yorkie and see what you pay for it.
It is clear there is no basis to your ASSumptions and you are pulling your statements out of thin air. Last I talked to Frieda they were breeding less and wanting to place hounds in the hands of field trialers. Unproven crosses?? Where is your evidence for that statemet. LMAO - some people on this board.
