Winning the class of 52 Big males was kinda sweet also, considering he got stepped on by a horse in the first series.

Hunting Moment: I would have to say that the first time I took my male back out after being laid up for a month after darn near dying and losing his tongue. He jumped the 1st rabbit and straight up ran it down on the jump. I had to dig the fur out of his bottom jaw for him because he had no way of getting it out!

Trialing Moment: I have a limited exposure so far but I'd say it is still the first time I got a place/ribbon in an AKC trial. It was also my females first real AKC trial. I took her up to Java Village to run on hare, she was 3 days shy of her 1st birthday. Stupid I know but she was all I had to run. She took home a 4th that day and it was about 90 degrees. She put it on those hare with the big dogs back and forth thru that swamp. I was like a little kid at Christmas with every dog they picked up that wasn't her. She stayed down til the end too, in a 2 hour winners pack with all out running. It was a pretty easy ride home that weekend.

Trial wise, I think my favorite memory is taking my old Rocket dog out of field trial retirement at 11 years old and watching him place 4th out of 45 champions at the North American Championship. The old boy had won his fair share, but this 4th place was just something special. Never trialed him again.

I have thought about not commenting on this subject as I read some of the great accomplishments in field trailing some of my friends and some I don't know have made - I realize our humble achievements at ROWCO do not compare. However in hunting there is a day that rests fondly in my memories and had the greatest impact on my knowledge of hunting rabbits with beagles. I must have been about 14 which would make it 54 years ago this coming rabbit season. My Father (Roy O. Williams - ROWCO) and his boys were hunting somewhere here in eastern NC. Daddy had 5 boys and no girls. We were hunting 3 really good grade dogs, Jack, Bob, and Mary at that time. I kicked a rabbit up with Jack hunting so close to me that he saw the rabbit and a chase was quickly on. I immediately started to run behind them when Daddy grabbed me. he said, "don't run behind them. Stay right here and he'll be back. Be quiet. In a few minutes I could tell the dogs were heading straight toward me. I could hear something on the ground in front of the dogs and suddenly, there he was, almost in the bed he got out of. I laid him down with one shot from the old Steven's double barrel 410 that all the boys started rabbit hunting with. Jack was so close behind that he had the rabbit before I could get to him and I had to take it away from him. I learned a world of knowledge in the quiet that morning as the dogs "circled" the rabbit. I did not know enough of rabbit hunting lingo to explain everything that happened that day. Now that I have hunted well over 50 years I realize that it was a good 20 - 25 minute circle without a single 15 second check until they brought him back to the gun. I do not know who was more proud that morning, me or Daddy. Man I wish me and 5-0 (his radio name) could turn Bob, Jack, and Mary loose this morning and go rabbit hunting. He has a lot more to teach me. Bobby (Crabby's Daddy)

one of my most memorable moments was when Nate killed that Swamper that is seen in his avatar. I still laugh at that day. "Man that's a big rabbit, Man That's A Big Rabbit, MAN THAT'S A BIG RABBIT!!!!!!!"

I remember in 2008, I went to the Little Pack World hunt with a unknown 2 yr dog by the name of Phantom, only was in a club hunt to qualify him and he won it. I knew he had what it took to do well, given all things fall into place. Long story short I took 3 dogs up there, and he was my best shot I thought to win it all. Not to slight the other two but he was hittin on all cylinders. 7 months previously before that Boggey slips a disc in his back and was paralyzed in his back end, with rehab and steroids he was able to run again. Ol Boggey proved to me what kind of heart he had coming back from that injury. Both phantom and boggey placed 4th that year, Phantom in the open class and Boggey in the champion class. First time to place in a big 5 and hit the top five with both of them. A proud moment for me and those two, that was just the beginning of the hard work paying off in my kennel, as we have had a fun ride the last 5 years winning against and getting beat by some of the top hounds in the country

The state of indiana has been good to me. Between scott music and marple i aint got that 3rd jacket yet. I am gonna keep of trying. Talked to Bobby Vest last night We got a big bitch that can roll on and spit mouth, however her freaking heat cycle is got her off point. As much as i like females they can get on my nerves. Gotta shoot for another time. Anyone that has not made it to this hunt go. Them boys put on a hunt worthy of any Kings Ransom, lil breedmier has got spots that hold more rabbits than u can imagine and the running is Huge. I personally endorse the Coal Mine Classic.

My greatest moment will be happening this weekend. My 9 year old son and myself will be taking a long road trip to get two pups in southern Indiana. Getting back into beagling after being out for several years. We will be spending the night in French Lick, hometown of my sports hero Larry Bird, then picking the pups up Sunday morning and bringing them home. It will be close to a 1000 mile road trip. I can't wait!
Running beagles off and on for 30 years.

If your gonna make the trip go by the French Lick Resort, you are actually right there. Years ago i won a trip there. It is one of the coolest places to visit and has a ton of mob history behind it plus larry bird lives fairly close. Best of luck with the pup and have a safe journey. Abshire
