This style of hound is currently the most popular in AKC trials and puppy registrations.
Plus, they are worth more money than any other beagle format.
Why?
As we lose hunting grounds, acreage, leases, etc.
Having a hound that can keep a rabbit circling on 5-20 acres is valuable.
Hounds of the future??

I don't run this type hound but merely state the facts.

LPB
I enjoy seeing the rabbit run by me with its ears laid back, running for its life. i would rather have my best hound flattened on a road having the game its pursuing running that way rather than having the bunny hopping from one pile to another on a small parcel of land. Although i may not agree with how Harry started the discussion he is absolutely 100pct correct in everything he said about ruining the breed. How this hound can be worth more money is beyond me, definitely not my style, so my opinion is biased.

Can you imagine a coon hound running a raccoon that way? Or lets say some of those mountain lion hounds running a cat that way?

We always complain about why coon hounds sell for thousands upon thousands of dollars up to 50K, and winning a certain hunt earns you a new truck while our beagles sell for A COUPLE HUNDRED DOLLARS. One main reason is because everyone has bred their different flair into their hound, what they think a beagle should be, NOT WHAT IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE. So they can compete in what type of trial they want to compete in. We as beaglers have forgotten what the breed was actually supposed to do, which is chase its game with the intent to overtake. (well some of you have forgotten, obviously Harry and I havnt forgotten).

Keep in mind a hound does not have to run a 10 in speed to run with the intent to overtake its game. You can tell very quickly a hound that runs with the intent to overtake its game and a hound that just runs the track in front of it. IMO those track smelling babblers should be culled and we should get back to Beagling as it was originally meant to be. Mark, ......since were talking of your videos, .... i mean nothing personal toward you by any of this, its meant as a general statement, its my opinion only.

These are a few reasons why you can buy a Champion in our sport for hundreds but Champions in other sports sell for 50K

The objective for me is to get you guys to watch the videos and get a response out of you. I try to make them entertaining so it even if they are not your style you still may enjoy the video. I am not trying to convince anybody that my dogs are the only way to run a rabbit. Over the years we have ran about every style of dog out there. For us these dogs have been the most consistent of all the style dogs we have owned. I have no problem with the negative comments. If you have a comment it must have gotten your attention long enough to watch some of it. Bad response is better than nothing at all. As far as SPO pack trials these dogs are no where close to having enough power to run the places like the UBGF Run Off. They run a powerful dog.
Here is a little video of the dogs running and they average I think 2.7 miles per hour. I know that is really slow for most of you guys but you have to remember they are in a lot of thick briers and heavy cover at times.
All I can say is enjoy the videos for what they are. Not trying to convince anybody this is what you should be running.
This is a forum to post your opinions so post away. I feel like when I post them they are fair game. I am secure enough to know they are quality dogs in my eyes.

Running to OVERTAKE the quarry? I thought it was rabbit hunting, not rabbit catching. I know you said "with the intent". JMO.

Thanks,

Yes, correct, Overtake the quarry. The rabbit hunting part comes from "looking for the actual quarry" and i dont mean beating the brush with a stick. Once the quarry or in this case the rabbit is jumped then that is where the breed of a beagle chasing or pursuing the game with the "intent to overtake" comes into play. Just thot i would clarify. JMO :)

likeemfast and Competent can you post a video of dogs that run the style you describe. I don't think I have ever seen a beagle that aggressive and I want to check it out. I don't trial or live near the Canada border so my chances of ever seeing that style of dog in person is slim.

My dad was a coon hunter and his dogs were fast and ran to catch, but since I don't trial I have to use this forum to watch and learn about the wide variety of styles and speeds of beagles.

Thanks in advance.
