You a awful big boy, hope I don't make ya mad. I been in the loop since 89 I have seen everything from this to that be hot. Maybe we all agree to disagree, but a run in hound from a popular stud sure draws attention from a judge. Specially if he owns one. They gotta be the best right? Kinda funny what a field trial has become. Just saying if ya don't judge ya kinda have the lick anymore. Guess age is a catching me. John Boy has been told too me by guys I trust to be a hell of a power hound. All ya gotta do is repeat his fame. It ain't easy. Ask anyone.

I guess I just don't really understand this "flavor of the month" issue. It is my opinion that such would be kind of like a one or two song wonder. It also would be like the ice cream that is only available at certain times of the year such as pumpkin around Thanksgiving, red cinnamon at Christmas or those cream filled eggs at easter. I would say that if a dog is like the Enegizer bunny and just keeps on ticking (winning) then that is no flavor of the month BUT a proven winner. Being a proven winner doesn't necessarily make them a good reproducer BUT when they have numerous offspring following in their footsteps of WINNING then that makes them a proven reproducer as well. Ranger Dan was a winner and so has many of his offspring been and in my eyes that isn't a flavor of the month BUT one in which folks should have realized was a BRAND name. There are others that have proven the test of time, as well as some doing it now so I don't consider them a "flavor of the month" but rather a BRAND name ready for the licking they are capable of giving YOU! Dogs and flavors are two things that very from individual to individual but good is good regardless of whether one likes it personally or not.

you boys never mentioned the calibur of female being bred to the flavor of the month.how many top dogs came from bitches that could not even run a rabbit?I had a female that was too sorry to waste a shell on but when bred to a certian dog every pup that was given the chance made a good dog.one was even what I would call a superior hound.

I passed on breeding to Ranger Dan while he was at public stud because I thought he might be a fad and I was more interested in 15" dogs but if I had to do it over again I certainly would have used him.The problem as I see it is how do you determine if the stud is the real deal or not? I wish that more stud owners would save some straws of semen so when history proves that the flavor of the month was the best reproducer ever I could fix the error of my ways.

I Think this post was about what stud dogs is still alive and reproducing right now not 2 and 3 genartion back. But if you go back 2 are 3 generation back blue ninja and round pond Mr T by percentage reproduce better then any dogs out there.

If a dog clips off some pretty big wins in akc or lp and was breed to produce. I guess that's considered a flavor. Only if opened up for public stud. Breeding one too me is a accomplishment almost as important as winning the big one. Anyone can buy and win it's a little harder for the breeder unless your buddies cheat for ya. IMHO.
Another thought. Why do people keep 15-20 dogs? Ya can't do em right dog food is sky high and who da hell wants to fool with the mess. I have always kept 3 too5 dogs and too me that's a good manageable number. I bred a bitch maybe every two three years. It's a lot harder for the little guy to exceed than the boys breeding every bitch they can find just to find the Great One. After all these years I have finally learned to enjoy these trials, just go every blue moon and watch who's judging. ;) .I would rather let you come too us and run then give you my money so you can tell me about my dogs I have bred and trained for years. .another thought if ya got too bred every bitch ya can to get this great one, then how great is your stud anyway? Just food for thought. So I think if trials stopped tomorrow ya would see about 3/4 of the breeders cease in a year. There would be nothing too gain and all too lose.field trials and titles determine flavors.

So is the thought process now, that if you have to breed a stud over 250 times to get a handful of champions, that he is not actually a great stud?

THANKS KEVIN FOR THE COMMENT ON ROUND POND MR.T IF U LOOK AT THE NUMBER OF BREEDINGS HE HAD VERSES GOOD DOGS HE PRODUCED HE IS AWINNER I KEEP AS MUCH OF IT AS I CAN N MY LITTLE BACKYARD KENNEL.U SEE U HAVE TO ALSO LOOK AT NUMBER OF BREEDINGS VERSES NUMBER OF GOOD HOUNDS PRODUCED . IF U GOT ONE STUD THAT BREEDS A IOO FEMALES AND ONE BREEDS 25 AND U GET SAME AMOUNT OF GOOD DOGS WHICH IS THE BETTER PRODUCER? PEOPLE DONT LOOK AT THAT ANYMORE WITH INTERNET NOW ALOT MORE BREEDINGS R TAKING PLACE BECAUSE DOGS R BEING BLOWN UP TO B THIS OR THAT U DON'T HAVE TO BRAG ON AGOOD PRODUCING DOG HE WILL BRAG ON HIS SELF ALLWAYS REMEMBER RECORDS LIVE OPINIONS DIE
