A FEW HUNTERS IN MY AREA WANT TO BRAG ABOUT NOT SHOOTING RABBITS DURING HUNTING
SEASON. I THINK THATS GREAT HOPE THEY KEEP IT UP! THOSE SAME GUYS ARE THE ONES WHO DONT
AGREE WITH THE HUNTERS THAT HUNT EVERY CHANCE THEY GET,DONT AGREE WITH THE AREAS OTHER
HUNTERS HUNT.IN GENERAL ANYTHING SOMEONE ELSE IS DOING! MY SONS AND I HUNT RABBITS ALL SEASON
EVERY CHANCE WE GET I'VE NEVER TOLD THEM TO PUT THE GUNS UP JUST ALWAYS HUNT LEGAL AND ENJOY
EVERY HUNT. :camo:

First off the posting on this site is all about being subjective and giving opinions. Thats what makes it interesting. Its also a great site for providing facts and information to others. With that said this is my opinion on the subject.

As some of you may have noticed I believe it is important to follow the game laws. I have followed the story closely where some Game Wardens in Ohio were bad apple, most are awesome, but we cannot tolerate those who are bad apples. Its important as sportsman we keep our eyes open to violations of game laws by everyone and support the rights of those who follow those laws and regulations.

Now with that in mind some regulations that can unintentionally be violated. Not only are there daily bag limits but there are POSSESION LIMITS. These usually are double the daily limit in most states. In Ohio for example it would be 8 rabbits allowed in POSSESION.... thats what you have in your freezer in case you some are unaware. Also many states have laws about WANTON WASTE of game. Now this is a tricky area and may be up for debate, of what may be considered the wasting of game animals. There is a lot to consider about the wanton wasting of game animals.

With all that said, I like to hunt and kill a few rabbits, the ones I eat, or serve up at work. I stay withing the possesion limits in my state. If I have a bad day and only get one or two, I clean the rabbit and place it in my freezer until I have enough for a meal. As long as anyone is staying within their states limits both daily and possesion I support them 100%. As long as someone is not violation the laws on wanton waste or any other regulations I support them 100%. :D

jmo but if you go rabbit hunting the goal is to hunt them the laws give you a limit and you should go hunt at a spot where you can kill your limit! im not goin to bring anyone to any of my spot and let them shoot a rabbit we dont have enough to shoot ive only killed 8 rabbit in my hometown they were all road rabbits going to get hit by a car or ate by an owl hawk coyote fox snake ect.. so id rather my dogs get a bit of fur in thr mouth! as for joeyman hes a good guy who enjoys the sport he was blessed with thousands and thousands of acres to hunt! Where within 45 min of the dogs runin you will see 5 to 10 rabbis that the dogs arent running and you will have split chases one after another so id say kill your limit and you may be able to go back to his spot and actually have all the dogs on one rabbit hes not doin anything wrong he has great spots where they will reproduce im tellin you we cant kill em all out of there its just not possible they have so many holes and home in his neck of the woods if you havent hunted with him you shouldent give him sh!t! Dont knock it till you try it!we hunted 10 hours only shot 8 rabbits jumped over 20 or 30 at one spot id like to go back and shoot some more! Keep up the good work joey!

I like to shoot rabbits on hunts. We eat a few during the year and give away the rest, but I will say this. The number of rabbits we shoot during a hunt does not equal wether the hunt was more sucessful than any other hunt. As long as the dogs do there jobs right and make some music it can't be a bad day. Our hunting party jumped 7 and killed 4 last Saturday. The full cry chases were really good and the shooting was bad at times, but we brought all the dogs home and it was a heck of a day. I don't think I would have been any more satisfied if we would have jumped 12 and killed 10.
We jumped 16 and killed 15 one day a couple of years ago and I still had to go to work on Monday. I waited all day for the contract offers for a professional rabbit hunter contract, but the calls never came. They didn't even mention us on sports center !
Where's the earth shattering kaboom ?

Jerwane, I understand your post. Don't quit posting. You named no names nor called anybody out but some people are, indeed quick to respond in the negative to anything they do not agree with on here. You sound like a very sensitive and knowledgeable person. That said, this forum is much better than some of the others.

I personally do not kill anything. I do not eat rabbits so have no need to shoot any and there are few in my area to shoot. I do know people who will shoot anything they see and especially rabbits since they can be sold on the side market. If a person eats what he kills that is fine with me but, we will not hunt together for rabbits. I wonder what it would be like if the rabbit had the gun.

to each his own.
i want to kill enuff to keep a couple trapping buddies well supplied with rabbits to be used for bait.i wouldnt waste time eating them when i rather would eat beef/pork/chixen etc.the only time i won't try and limit is when hunting with pups or with someone else at one of their spots.

as for cleaning out the freezer,i guess throwing out anything at all makes ya a bad guy?
i guess no one here has ever just shot a squirrel(in season of coarse) just to have the tail to tie some flies outta?
every fish gets eaten?every fish i freeze goes to coonbait and if i wanna fill a chest freezer with 400lbs of inedible carp i guess i am a bad guy?
if so being bad is great.

in ky the possesiuon limit does not apply to freezer but to what you have in possesion after two or more days of hunting when in field like a camping trip or staying in hotel and hunting then transporting back home. :D

Same for PA, although they use to have a season limit here.

i have learned over the years that the ones that complain about the number of rabbits another hunter kills usually does it because they dont have dogs that can find them , they like to let the dogs run them because they know they are going to struggle to find the next one , a rabbit has a very short lifespan in the wild , if i dont kill it something else or someone else will , i especially like it when they complain about rabbit hunters that dont have dogs and just go out and jumpshoot , like its against the law or something , i personaly wont hunt rabbits without dogs but who am i to dictate what someone else does , as long as its legal , to each their own , but i would like to thank all the guys out there that dont shoot many , makes my day much better , kinda like the deer hunters out there that let 120 inch deer walk because there too small , i would like to thank them also

You are right. People can do what they want. But you really have no idea what Jewan's point is.

i know what his point is , just because he has changed the way he does things , he thinks everyone else should also , just because he cant eat that many rabbits dont mean the next guy cant , we eat out of our freezer all year , its nice to have some fried rabbit or squirrel in june , so i pile it in there and eat all year , and with the comment you made about " what would happen if the rabbits had the guns " i now know where you stand , sounds like a true ANTI HUNTER comment to me !
