Jwagner wrote:john03272005- i will stick to your example of nba players. Bryant and Jordan are exceptional players. but there are other guys in the nba that practice just as much and are average. translating to beagles, you will have exceptional hound who get run all the time and that is great. but I bet more guys on this board who run all the time have more average dogs than exceptional ones. Because if all the guys who run all the time all had exceptional hounds they would know longer be exceptional. I'm not at all saying if you run a piece of crap 4 months out of the year will be anything different after be laid up for long periods of time. It maybe worse. but when guys tell me you cant lay up a solid dog for some months. thaSvt they forget how to run a rabbit or it ruins them is crazy. But that goes into a whole other topic of standards. what people consider a solid dog.
I will totally agree with what it saying about the exceptional hounds or ball players but what I'm saying is that they are made not born now some have more what I would say the better traits or qualities that make the better hound and yes dogs that get ran a lot are not all GREAT but I believe in order to bring out the best of a dog or human in what ever it does it needs a much exposed as possible!! Now I'm not saying just because its laid up it will forget what a rabbit is but what I am saying is that A CHAMPION IS MADE NOT BORN!! It could be a world beater but if it doesn't get the field time and practice it aint never gonna be!!! JMHO

john i dont like people picking fights on here and it looks like i might have started one just by using a joke that i use with my sons. im sorry. i believe the more you run them the better they will be. i also believe some dogs are just better and dont need as much running as others to be a solid hound.

If my dogs couldn't be ran at least 2-3 days a week, I would sell them... if you want to really see how great they could be then its gonna take alot more running than that!

JMO, the most pivotal time in a young hounds life is the first 2 yrs. You lay them up in that period for any amount of time, for example a month, and they will get set back. Again this is JUST MY OPINION. I say hammer on her for a couple months with as much time as you can put in and see what your result is. Some young dogs could take an extended break but I would be they would be very, very few.

If you liked her first efforts she is probably worth putting in the time that everyone is mentioning. I hope she works out for you!

Pound the dog and see what you get. Can't make a dog while it's sitting in the pen......

Have to agree with most of the previous posts. My opinion she's young and unexperienced or, probably a slower dog than the rest of your pack. Some dogs that are slower than the pack will fall apart. Run them by themselves or with alike speed and they're fine. If you're not to attached I'd move her, sounds like you just like to drop the whole pack if your running.
Beagling is not a science, just an opinion!
