I think your key is a bit flat on this one, Patch. If you had been the target of her vitriol, we would have been seeing some old-time grandpa adages about switch-cutting, and cryptic messages about time/space travel like, "clean into next Sunday."
We all would like to see kids get involved and enthused about the sport. But, we don't need anybody - not just teenagers - coming on here with guns blazing, with the sole intent of pissing people off and being amused by it (unfortunately I've seen the pm's) and I'm dismayed at the adults who encouraged her, and went so far as to tell her that the administration of this board was unfair and biased. Way to go, guys. Way to guide a youngster in the sport. [/sarcasm] Yes, this board is such a terrible place to be, and ruled by a regular Attila the Hun. That's why it sees 20 times the traffic of the other beagle boards, because I keep such a tight leash on everyone. Y'all are welcome to go try out the same behavior you use on this board over on those boards, and see how far it gets you.
This board has a restriction on access given to minors (assuming they are telling the truth when they register) and often the parents ask me to lift the limitations on their kids because they feel their kids are adult enough to handle what they read. Fine. Then they had best be adult enough to post responsibly because once I lift those restrictions, they will be treated like everyone else.
And for the record, what some folks might see as "others getting away with it" while some folks don't, is nothing more than a matter of me not knowing about it, and you not telling me. Contrary to what people may think, the Admins and I do not read every thread, every post on every topic that's written here. We assume that people will generally act in a respectable manner, and use that alert button, or contact one of us if real trouble breaks out and we don't catch it. This board gets over 100 new posts per day, 365 days per year. I quickly scan the board for topics that interest me, and/or look like they could potentially be problematic, because, you know ... I have another board almost as busy as this one, a full-time plus job, a property to take care of by myself, and recently another issue that demanded much of my time and attention. I'm amazed to think that the members here believe that Aaron, Ed and I don't have lives outside this board, and that we spend every waking minute pouring over what you guys are all talking about.
In summary, if anyone here (and y'all know who you are) really think there's a clique or a "friends club," or some looking the other way going on, I'm telling you now that is FALSE. Besides my lack of inclination, I simply
don't have the luxury of time that allows me to play that game. If you feel somebody on this board is breaking the rules or is becoming very offensive despite others' attempts to make nice, NOTIFY ME, or Aaron, or Ed -- just as was done in the case of this young lady. If you see it and you don't report it, then don't whine and cry "unfair" if we miss it.
And somewhat related...
The political forum is a shark tank, and moderated under different standards. It's an arena for people to vent, debate, get heated, and it has nothing to do with the sport. I think everyone has been pretty well forewarned. So I am surprised to learn that a poster who approached me about either arbitrating there or putting a password on that forum because it was so brutal, turned around and encouraged this 15-year-old girl to go visit that forum. Wha...???
They next time you point your finger, look down at your hand ... you'll see 3 fingers pointing back at you.
