Re: Beagles Without Papers
It's like that with any hound. Coon hounds are even harder to sell with out papers. I have both grade and AKC dogs. It just depends on what you are looking for in a dog. I like papers because you can keep up with the dogs and where they came from. It's hard to sell a dog around here that is not AKC. I have a grade 3 grade males. All my females have papers. I would not raise a litter I cannot register, just because I would not be able to give them away. But at the same time I have never saw a set of papers run a rabbit or tree a coon. It's all about what your looking for in a dog.

Good grade dogs hold value here. Most of my friends gun hunt hard and pack run. They don't trial .Season ended last week.A friend of mine bought a grade female for $500 that we had hunted with this season.Very nice dog. I bought a grade female this season for $350.She suits me great.I usually just keep around 4 dogs.I have 2 AKC females comming 3 years old.One is out of Abshires June. The other out of Riley Rolling trials. They both are above average in my eyes.Far from outstanding.I put down a grade female that was 8 years old this season. Easy one of the top 5 dogs I have owned in over 35 years of beagling. If I could find another one like her I would give away the June and trails female I own.I don't expect to find another one like her The very best dog I ever had off the chain was a grade female.I know the difference because I have owned plenty of sorry dogs through the years also LOL... Grade dogs suit me fine.I don't sell pups or move many dogs.My thoughts are if you move tons of dogs like many do on this board then they must be AKC..to draw much interest...

I know alot of people up here in Pa that would be very pleased with a good grade dog (especially a cheap or free one) its hard to find any amount of rabbit dogs around here. My dog is grade and so are the ones my friends have. Up around here the only plus in having papers for us would be getting in the local club or if we were interestind in breeding and selling, but we're just in it for fun

I have 2 grade dogs & 2 AKC. I don't trial mainly because I don't have trial dogs. There are some AKC trials close I hear. otherwise I would have to go 5 hours or more one way. My weekends are usually pretty full so my runnin is for short periods. So really a grade dog would suit me just fine. Now I do like the fact that I can look at a dogs ped., & tell where it came from. I don't think papered dogs are better, so they're not worth more to me. BUT... papers help sell a pup. I got kinda disallusioned about it some cuz I bought a FC bred AKC pup, & I don't know whether he's gonna make it or not, & for the money I got in him, I coulda bought a good runnin grade dog.
