Just tried my new Astro and DC40 this morning. It did great with no lost signal. I went into my workshop with doors closed and never lost the signal. Our creek is dry except for a couple of holes so the dog didn't have to go swimming. :D

i used mine for the first time the other night. was horrible signal. i cant believe it really. i mean theres always the post on here garmin vs beep beep. ive used beep beep and ive used garmin.. and my dog is alot more safer wearing a garmin than they are with a beep beep.. well with a dc 30 that is. not a dc 40... i was loosing signal on mine a t71 yards and we were in that bottoms coon hunting.. i never completely lost it for ever i always kept getting in back in a few secs it seemed like.. Do u think they field tested these things im mean seriously?? reading on the internet every body saying the horrible signal there getting makes met hink they didnt.. i mean 71 yards and loosing siganl in the flatest ground and the cleanest woods u can find.. hopefully they have a update that will do away with this problem.. i bought my dc 30 and ive never had the first problem with them.. but this does me in buying something new like this before i know its been field tested from hunters...

I talked to Garmin yesterday, if you did not buy the receiver with the dc 40 they want you to hook up the receiver to the computer and update the collar unit to match the receiver. I had already done the updates to the receiver to have the latest software. It sounds like if you buy the unit together they are already set up. I will find out if this helps later today.

I think that all that the download does is tell your handheld to live with the weak signal and not give you a lost dog message as often. I might be wrong but it sure appeared that way to me. I have went back to the dc30 until they make real improvements to the dc40.

I got my collars last Wed. I did my download and set them up as was stated by Chip E's post. I used them for three days straight, the first day I lost signal on one, just a few minutes after turning loose. I got it set up and going again. Then I lost signal on another after two hrs. Then Sunday the only one that lost signal was the one I lost signal on after two hrs, I lost it again at two hrs. Then today the same collar lost signal at two hrs, and then another one lost signal after two hrs. In my opinion, I don't think there's alot of advantage to the 40's over the 30's. I thought it would be alright to put the tri-tronic on the same collar with the garmin, but where you have to put it, it's on the side away from the antennea and thats where they say not to put it so other than the pin# if thats important to you or the type collar I see no advantage myself. With the 30's price's down, I told the better half I'd be happy to order a couple of those but she said I'd done spent too much. Oh by the way, the temp's were cool here in Southeren Mo and we had some rain earlier in the week and the running was great all three days.

My collar lost signal on Sat and Sun and never did pick back up while the dog was loose. I emailed Garmin and told them I will trade for a DC 30 or want a refund. The 30's never lost signal like this, or when they did they at least picked back up again.

I too am having trouble with the dc40. Same thing with ? , but only a few seconds.I did the software update right away but didnt help. I also notice that my dc30 didnt take sooo long to get a satellite signal. Now with the dc40 I have to turn both collars on (one is my old dc30, one new dc40) and the handheld unit and sit them outside in field for a while before I put them on the dogs, so they can get a signal. Never had to do that before I got the new collar. I got it for my smallest beagle, but it is still too big and the antennae is always down between his front legs when he comes out of brush. I put the tritonics unit on the new collar, a feature I do love, so that gives him one less collar to tote around. Now if they can also add an O ring to snap the leash to..... poor little guy has a small neck and had to wear 3 collars. No wonder his bark sounds strangled. I am glad I didnt buy 2 dc 40s

Tried mine out again this weekend and after 2 hrs I lost signal, again and sometimes the signal woould come back. I was given a 30 day money back deal on mine and I'm gonna try them again but I don't see that nothing will change. Went to the Garmin web site and read some reviews and not good ones and I don't see where garmin is addressing this and I really don't wanna be stuck with something you can't count on.

I talked to Garmin and Cabela's and I am trading the DC 40 back to Cabela's for a DC 30 and then Cabela's can send it to Garmin. Garmin won't let me trade the 40 for the 30. The 40 lost signal again yesterday and never picked back up, at least I know the 30's work.

Sent my 40 back to Garmin for another one. The new one seems to work a lot better than the first one I had, but still had 2-3 times were it briefly lost signal, but got it back. Need to use it a few more times before I make up my mind if i'm going to keep it or not.

I used mine again Sunday. I got one collar that, (like clock work) looses signal at about the two hour mark. Sunday that was the only one that lost signal. The other two held signal for a full 5 hour hunt, and the one that lost signal got it back after an hour and never lost it again. The day before all three lost signal and got it back and lost it again. I guess I shouldn't mess around any more and just send them back. If Garmin would come out and say there trying to fix the problem I'd feel better about keeping them. I was told that the DC 30 had alot of problems when they first came out, does anybody recall that? I didn't have them and couldn't buy one so I don't remember reading about them have this much problem.

Hey Preacher the 30's are down on price right now if I could afford it I'd buy another one or two. I talk to the guy I got my 40's from and he will work with me anyway I want. He said he'd refund the money or trade back in for the 30's. Were gonna try a couple things and see if anything works.
