Here is a little story about two highschool (seniors) that we hired last summer....believe me it is true and I witnessed it....figured you guys would enjoy it.
Ding and Dong (as we called them after this shear act of intelligence) were to paint jersey barriers (highway dividers) yellow, not a hard concept....ok, I line up paint, rollers, and brushes....I give them the pretty simple instructions and ask if there are any questions and tell them I will check in on them in a few hours. Several hours pass and I decide I better check on their progress......I pull around the shop and see that they had decided to go find black spray paint in the shop and paint "Jaque #32" and "Marquis #24" on the barriers....not just one barrier, ALL 50 of them...lol. Now, I'm not sure what to say to these dipwads at this point other than "wtf could going possibly be going through you two idiots heads".....they were like "what, we can paint right over it".....So I calmly explain to them that from my standpoint I just paid you guys $160 in labor to paint your f'n names and basketball numbers on our property.....they looked at me with blank stares and said...."well you don't have to get mad about it, we will fix it tomorrow". Ok, the next day rolls around.....I say, "Go get your f'n names off of the barriers".....Now here is where you are going to laugh.....Three hours later I check on them and they had found ANOTHER black can of spray paint in the shop and proceeded to spray over their names rather than just painting the dang barriers yellow.I can't help but laugh about that story because to this day I can't believe two 18 year olds could really be that stupid.
When the moment of truth arrives, the point of preparation has passed.

Jimmy.....it was at that point I realized that my teaching degree in Elementary Education really did fit into my title as Project Manager...up to that point I always felt under qualified.....I still shake my head about it and wonder what could have been going through their peanut heads. THEY THOUGHT WHAT THEY DID WAS OK, and that is the scary part!!!

I bet somewhere in the world young people are online making fun of old people. I can just here them now, " man that old gezzer can't hear a thing, you can't talk in a normal voice, you have to shout at him. Yea, and grumpy ain't the word for it, bite your head off every time you open your mouth. Yea that's right they can't remember a thing, what you tell them today, you got to tell them all over again tomorrow, yea man they need to get their old cripple butt up and go to work and get out from under foot. You see, their are stages in life that all people go through; if we all live long enough we will go through that child like stage again, once a man twice a child.

Re: Pretty Sad...
A very self-important college freshman attending a recent football game, took it upon himself to explain to a senior citizen sitting next to him why it was impossible for the older generation to understand his generation.
"You grew up in a different world, actually an almost primitive one !", the student said, loud enough for many of those nearby to hear.
"The young people of today grew up with television, jet planes, space travel, man walking on the moon, our spaceships have visited Mars. We have nuclear energy, electric and hydrogen cars, computers with DSL, BPS, light-speed processing .... and..."
...pausing to take another drink of beer.... The Senior took advantage of the break in the student's litany and said, "You're right, son. We didn't have those things when we were young, so we invented them. Now, you - arrogant little crap - what are you doing for the next generation?"

God isn't real, Beer is good and people are crazy, there I fixed it.

Well I guess I shouldn't post cause I got normal kids that are all teens or turnin' into em', sometimes they just get busy and get things done right and other times they would rather debate the difficulty of their social development for 4 hours to avoid a 10 minute job. I like em' pretty much and figure since I decided on the breeding it's my responsibility to take care of em' as good as I would any of my dogs. The better ones get a bit more in their dish then the others and some have gone hungry for a day just to raise their desire but over all I like the potential of this litter they all know how to get in the brush and do it right and mostly they do but they'll run down that deer trail once in awhile and need remindin' of how it's gonna be.
I gotta admit though that I mess up at being a Dad as much as they mess up at being kids trying to grow up. I'm lucky enough to have a wife that's always there to tell us which one of us is messing it up though and that keeps us all straight for the most part.
I've always believed that if you educate your own kids and don't give away that right then they will at least have a teacher who cares about the results more than anyone else will. Educated kids tend to grow up to be more happy adults because they can contribute to those around them instead of relying on others to contribute to them. I should clarify, when I say educate, I'm talking about a whole lot more than school, ABC's and math. I'm talking about values and what really matters in life.
Now I'll step down off my average sized soap box and return the floor to all of you.

People thought I was a little rough on my kids growing up.I taught them the value of a dollar in terms of working for it.As for goals,my saying was this to them,"life is like a sled dog team,Iffin you aren't the lead dog your senery is the same every day".Both have excelled at what they do and I couldn't be prouder and releived that they have the tools for a great life.

Well, that's pretty bad. I'm also a 16 yr old, but a guy, and I've been taught all growing up that you have to work for something if you want it. I spent my entire last summer blasting and painting as a full time job for 8 dollars an hour. My dad has been in the painting industry for like 20 somethin yrs and has always told me that his job isn't what I want to do when I get older because it sucks. Well, I loved it!! I don't quite know why I liked it so much but I did. I was good at it and at the time I was 15 and for that age it paid good. I'm greatful that my mom and dad raised me that way. I have a brother that's a couple years younger than me and he wasn't raised that way and he is a pain. If you need him to help you outside in the heat workin, you'd better hang it up because he ain't comin. I've also decided that I'm not buying my children any video games because that's what ruined my brother. Birthdays and Christmas they're gettin beagles!!!!
Re: Pretty Sad...
I seen alot of people come and go...
The biggest long-lasting investment you make in your life is your children, why would you not take care of them?
The problem stems from, they don't come with instructions...
The problem is there's no one answer, all are different individuals.
I seen parents that did all they could to make a silk purse out of a sows ear and I've seen coal pressed into diamond with little nurturing.
My parent both worked but thank God I had a grandmother that stepped in the fill the void.
I tell you money aint everything but it makes it seem easier until the interest comes due.
Some these stories sure made me laugh...Kids is good figuring out how to get what they want cause it's all thats on their minds, just like them pups you can't catch when it's time to go to the truck.
I tell you a story, I was cook'n since I was big enough to pull a chair up to the counter top beside my grandma. Well, in high school they offered up a class to teach boys how to cook, so some of us that liked to eat signed up cause it sounded like free food...
Well, we got free food. eatten up what ever was in the cabnets for the other class, but left ours alone so as not to draw attention.
Finally after all the book learn'un, we started cook'n and boy was it fun. one time we was to cook chicken and after hearing how dirty chicken was, we were told to wash our chicken before frying, you should have seen Mrs Elliot's face when she came by our group and seen that chicken all lathered up with the dish soap, she hollared "WHAT IN THE WORLD YOU BOYS DO'IN!!!"
I'll spare you the details on the next time we cooked, but it was make'n brownies and the instructions on the box said, "MIX BY HAND"
... finger licken good it was...
Oh, and Dad told us, "We gets a whoop'in at school...we gets another when we get home".
ps...Mom was a teacher, so we never got by with nothin she didn't know about fore we got home...
I think kids are kids and parents are still learning how to be parents, there's a new set born every day...

I'll go along with Patch, my dad was out of a family of ten boy's and two girls. The oldest was a girl and the youngest was a girl. They had very strict parents, grandad was a preacher that beieved in spair the rod and spoil the child. I won't go into detail about my uncles and aunt's but some, but very few turned out as roll model adult's but it could have had something to do with the high tempered, fighting Irish blood they inherited from both sides.
