I don't refridgerate but keep it in a dark place. It wouldn't hurt though.

Yes, I use Ivomec every month. I have had coon hounds, bird dogs, squirrel dogs (curs & feist) and beagles for over 30 years and never had a heart worm problem while using Ivomec. All my hunting friends also use it as I do.
I give 1/10th of one CC per 10 Lbs. of weight. I mix it in a bowl of sweet milk and the dogs lap it up.
I use safeguard for other worms every 3 months.

Joeyman, the ivomec no but the safeguard if you use it yes. Just keep the ivomec in a dark and not hot location like a cupboard somewhere.

i just treated all my dogs cept for my Leah dogs cause she has pups under her. It was pretty easy. I gave .2cc per dog. I squirted it right into their mouth. Easy

cheatmountainman wrote:That is what I have used for over 15 years with no problems. I give like others on here 1/10th of a cc for every 10 lbs once a month. As far as being hard on dogs kidneys or getting them bred I never had any problems with that either. I had a Dual Grand champion coon and bear dog with a type of mange and the vet I took her to could not cure her and she was in misery scratching constantly and a friend of mine from Ohio got some info from one of his vets that said to give her a cc and a half a day for 30 days in a row. I was worried about what it would do to her but after trying everything else I decided to give it a try and it cured her without any problems that I could see. She was four at the time and lived past 13 years and I thought that was good for a competition coon and bear hound. She was a 70 lb. hound so that was more than double the dose I was giving her once a month for 30 days in a row. (She usually got 7/10ths of a cc once a month) During this treatment she got a cc and a half every day for 30 days in a row. I use it on all my beagles also. I hope you have good luck with it too.

This is correct, ivermectin not only kills many species of worms, but (at the right dosage) it will also cure mange.
The dosage for standard worms it what everyone has said: 0.1 ml per 10 lb, once a month. (Even less is needed for heartworm.)
The dosage for sarcoptic mange is the same as above, but given in two doses, once every 2 weeks.
The dosage for demodectic mange is 3x stronger than this, being 0.3 ml per 10 lb, and it is give orally and daily for at least a month.
The claim that ivermectin "ruins the kidneys" is repeated in many forums, but that simply isn't the reality. The reality is, you can give ivermectin at 3x the normal dosage, and give it like this every day for a month, and your dog's kidneys will not be "ruined," but its mange will be gone.
A few notes of caution, however:
1. Do not give ivermectin to collies (or thin-headed dogs that look like collies). For some reason, ivermectin is able to cross the blood-brain barrier in these animals (where it doesn't in most dogs) and can kill these particular breeds;
2. Do NOT use Ivomec-PLUS on any dog. Many people make the terrible mistake of buying Ivomec-Plus, thinking this will be even better, but Ivomec-Plus contains another drug (clorsulon), which CAN kill any dog regardless of breed;
3. Be careful with a similar class of drug called moxidectin. Moxidectin is in the same class of drug as ivermectin, but it is better and more powerful on swine and cattle. Unfortunately, moxidectin is also more likely to kill a normal dog, and in some areas it has been taken off the market because of this. I know of a couple of folks who have killed their entire yard of dogs using this drug.
Hope this helps,
.

Joey, you can still continue heartworm dose while she is nursing.Joeyman wrote:May 1st 2010
