What I have out of dan blood and what I have seen is good line control, close check work, if they loose or over run the line they snap right back to where they last had it and good hunt....Upper medium to medium fast depending on what other line was bred in to it. I have a friend that has a Ranger dan as the grandsire top and bottom with shooter as the sire, This dog shows the same traits, no extra mouth and a bit steppier. Saw a few dan grand pups run at NY SPO trials and they all showed that same good line control, close check and back to point of lose running.....Most seem to be nice line running dogs. Not at all what you would call head hunting.

I don't think the blood line can be classified into one formate because these dogs have been successful each of the formates you have mentioned. I am personally familar wth akc and I have seen this blood line do very well on both spo and large pack.

I agree with Brandon. I don't trial, but all i have heard is that Ranger Dan bred hounds are versatile. I am only a gunhunter and they fit very well into how we hunt and
perform fine. I will for sure continue to have it in my kennel, cause what i have seen are results.

Hey thanks, That pup is 8 months old now. She has picked up a little more foot. She runs with more confidence and holds her own when running with the older dogs. She gets her share of checks and then some, leads the older dogs at times and is able to hold the lead. As far as format. I watch results in BB magezine and I see dogs out of Shooter and other Dan sons and grandpups placing and winning in SPO on Rabbit and hare and in LP in the Northeast as well as in Michigen. My pups Sire was run here in NY in SPO. The Owner told me when He had gotten 2 wins in SPO he took him to a LP trial figuring he would place and biuld up some points because of the large LP classes. As far as double dan breeding I'm going to attach an old post to the bottom of this reply that was written I believe from an owner of Rangerdan......DH
As others have noted, the female will add something to the offspring whether good or bad. As for Ranger Dan and his brother Sprocket, both had unique voices that were impossible to describe but nearly identical. I understand this came from IFC Wingate's Brandon. Ranger Dan especially would give tongue harking in to a running pack when another hound recovered the line out ahead of him. A little annoying but nothing that would affect the pack or cause any harm. Out of the 50 or so pups I had off him, only one had bowed front legs and that likely came from the dam's pedigree. I thought both were very well put together, short-coupled and very square. Some of his offspring are mildly cowhocked. I hunted with two males off Dan last week, from my kennel that I sold as pups. One is built lean, very fast and accurate with an outstanding nose, the other lacks the footspeed due to his heavy build but stays closer on the check and also has the exceptional nose. Most of the pups that I started had considerable extra mouth but almost all of them cleaned up with maturity. A few never did. These would bark dog at times or rerun old lines. Never saw one backtrack. Ranger Dan's best trait in my opinion was his ability to always stay on the line no matter how rough or faulty his packmates were. The rougher the pack, the more he'd cut them up by turning corners or taking the checks. His level-headedness was amazing. He could be beaten by another clean running but faster hound that didn't create checks. He would run nothing but rabbit- leaving a pack who ran trash. I tried a couple of half brother to half sister crosses with his offspring with poor results. But used as an outcross, he added nose and brains to my kennel with no loss of good traits that I already had. Many breeders bred rough running bitches to him in order to gain line control but of course some of those offspring remained rough. There were far more positives to him than negatives and most of the negative was very minor. He was a great little dog.
