These are the top five dogs I have had the opportunity to see compete as a trial and/or hunting dog. It is extremely difficult to judge a hound by watching him only once or twice. My choices have been observed on poor and great scenting days.

1. IFC Mt. Zion Pete: (yes, I did see Pete run. My neighbor, Paul Hezcho owned him from a pup to about a year old)
2. FC Snow Run Boone: 1989 BB Most Outstanding Hound. Boone ran the same hare for 8 hours one day before we shot it!
3. IFC Green Bay Shooter: Anyone who has watched Shooter run will tell you he is one of the all time best "rabbit hound."
4. FC Green Bay Wiley: Was there EVER a faster/closer hound in the history of beagling? 2006 BB Most Outstanding Hound.
5. FC Green Bay Butkus: He is everything Shooter is, but faster. Sire: IFC Green Bay Shooter Dam: FC Green Bay Wiley

The following beaglers are my top five who have observed their hounds day in and day out. These five gentlemen have had outstanding hounds, but because I have not seen their hounds run on a regular basis, it is difficult to say who was the best hound they ever owned.
1. Joe Corullo
2. Howard Cate
3. John Quiggley
4. Donald "Butch" Saari
5. Ken Racine

I am sure their best hound(s) could compete with any of the five that I listed.

greenbay... what can you tell us about Mt. Zion Pete? The line of hounds I run is really bred strong off of Pete and he has been a major influence on alot of lines.

Thanks,

Theer are many that get better over time. But there are the ones that always come up.
1. Green Bay Shooter
2. Striker
3.Ranger Dan
4. Gay Baker
5. Jack of All Trades
I don't go to many trials but I have been fortunate to see some spectacular 13 inch males run. 2x NLPC IFC Kevins Tughill Maxamus and 2x NLPC Tex's Tughill Dark Raider are 2 of the best I have seen run and they are the real deal. I have seen them put it to a hare for hours. I currently have a 1yr old female off of Max that shows alot of promise. Can't wait to gun hunt over her in a couple of weeks. :D

This is all pretty subjective...depending on what someone likes. I like a smooth running hound that can get it done whenever and wherever..(not just look like a world beater on certain days and is more concerned about the race than the rabbit..) here are some hounds that have produced what I like...

1.) Northway Spur
2.) Brankos Copper Boy
3.) Haunted Hill Shaker
4.)Brankos White Blizzard
5.)Indian Hills Majer

there are alot of other hounds that i like, Heli-Prop, Buzzsaw, Sock It Too Me, Round Pond Mr. Tee, ect......
